Posted: Wed Jun 01, 2011 1:16 pm Post subject: Sad Update on Royston Cavalier (pg 9)
I know that a lot of you will already know about Royston cavalier, but just in case you don't please say hello
Royston (Roi to his friends) was handed in to us by his breeder when he was 10 weeks of age because he has hydrocephalus and was unsaleable. He immediately appeared to be an incredibly bright little fighter sort of a chap so Fionna committed to doing whatever was necessary to give him a chance at a normal life.
He was taken to Davies Vet Specialist's in Hertfordshire and had a scan, where they found that as well as the hydrocephalus he has a cyst at the base of his brain, but they felt that it was operable and that Roi was a good candidate for surgery to insert a shunt to deal with the hydrocephalus too.
So we have spent the last few months desperately trying to raise the funds for Roi's operation and now the big day has come. We are still a bit short on his fund but this post isn't about that.
Tomorrow, this little boy has a huge operation and if he makes it through (there's obviously a risk with the GA as there is with any dog having any op) then there is an excellent chance of him going on to lead a full and happy life with a normal cavalier lifespan and this is where you guys come in.
I KNOW how wonderful the famous LF vibes are and what good results they've had, so please please please if you can spare a good thought for Roi, please start thinking and wishing him good things now

I know that there are a lot of people who believe that this amount of money shouldn't be spent on one dog, but if Roi has this op and everything goes well, what's to say he's not going to go on and lead a perfectly healthy and happy life and never need any more major vet treatment? I should think that an awful lot more is spent on dogs with niggling ongoing smaller problems over the course of a lifetime than is being spent in one go on this op and he is such a cracking little boy.
Trust me, there's nothing wrong with his sense of smell! Fi stopped off here on her way to the specialist's and I've had a Roi standing with his front feet on my knee trying to snaffle my sandwich
