Well, having done agility for just over a year we braved our first demonstration today at a local village fun day (it was my dog club running the agility there). This was the first time that we had done it away from the enclosed indoor riding school where we train - and our first time in front of an audience. It was also the first time we had done a course - we do partial courses at training but not as long as this one. So lots of firsts!
I really thought she would just run off into the crowd to play with all the dogs that were watching and to stal food from all the picnicers (it was also lunch time!). However, she really was a good girl.
We jump full height in training but they kept them small for this to make it a little easier for us! We were second to go and she was pretty wound up so when I let he go and got her over the first fence she dashed off and climbed the A frame, much to the amusement of the crowd! But she didn't leave the arena (my biggest fear!) and came when I called her (hoorah!). We started again and after that she really was very good - yes she was a little distracted and didn't do perfect lines or anything but she did everything in the right order, the right way round and never strayed too far off target. She wasn't great on touch points as she was flying but, for a first attempt, I think it was pretty good.
I hope to start competing with her at the end of this year or the beginning of next, depending how things go with the baby (which arrives in August!).
I have a video but don't know how to get it on here from facebook (I can't just share the page because of my privacy settings) so any help on this would be appreciated.
There are always people watching at comps but you tend not to notice them too much as they tend to be passing by or queuing up or....but last year we qualified for the agility finals and had a proper audience watching - nerve wracking!!! It shows Poppy loves her agility if she ignored all the temptations and I have the same problem with Luna heading off to the a'frame when she isn't supposed to! She loves the contact equipment!
I think I usually upload my videos onto photobucket to post on here...
