I know I am biased about this but for dog walking the New Forest is great. You could probably do a different walk every day for a year. The pubs are very dog friendly (haven't found one yet that we could not take Barn into). The coast is very close if you fancy a beach walk (Highcliffe and Hengistbury Head etc). Lymington is interesting with lots of individual shops, the quay etc and you can catch the ferry over the Isle of Wight where there are more lovely walks. Christchurch is also interesting and (perhaps not so good for the dogs) it is also easy to get to Bournemouth, Southampton and Salisbury.
It's a pity you were looking at August. We have a 2bed lodge/chalet at Glan Gwna country holiday Park in Snowdonia North Wales. http://www.glangwna.com/ We are fully booked for August but the site is very dog friendly
I have just come home from a holiday in the Isles of Scilly. I met lots of labs who were on holiday there with their owners. They either came on the ferry (Penzance to St Mary's) or flew. Dogs can fly by plane from Land's End airport (15/20 minutes) only. I understand dogs can be transported by helicopter from Penzance too, but I haven't got the info on that one. The ferry is passenger only as there are only 11 miles of road in total on St Mary's. (Cars can be loaded into the hold as freight- we saw one on a crane). Everywhere is walkable.
Scilly is tranquil, and appears to be very dog-friendly. I didn't have mine with me, but I did see dogs under tables in restaurants. There is alot of self-catering accommodation, as well as dog-friendly B&Bs, hotels etc. I do expect, however, that it might be a bit too short-notice to find much choice now, but it's worth a look. www.simplyscilly.co.uk
Friends of mine had a honeymoon last May on a narrowboat so that they could take their two(rescued) GSDs. They chugged along from Stone to Willington and back in the week. They loved it, and so did the dogs from the photos. I could get you the details if you're interested.
Hi if you are still looking Boswell Farm Cottages near Sidmouth are dog friendly and it s a lovely area. Hope you have a lovely day whatever you decide.
Can't recommend highly enough the Tranquil Otter, Thurstonfield, just out of Carlisle, Cumbria..so within easy reach of the lakes.
It is pricey but absolutely stunning and perfect for a honeymoon. We've just had 5 days there and I didn't want to come home. Private hot tub, (sauna in some), own rowing boat with own garden and access to lake. Lovely short (or longer) walks through private woods around the lake, there are good food pubs nearby that are dog friendly plus Tesco do deliveries there for when you arrive.
Do you want "Splendid Isolation" or civilisation??? We have gone on holiday with our dogs for over 20 years, but depends what you are looking for?
I can say this, you will have a brilliant honeymoon with your dogs wherever you go because you will be together....ahhh......
Our wedding cost £80, I was a student nurse and my husband was in the navy, and it was awful (NOT to say your's will be), but we celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary this year, after many ups and downs, and and can say we are as happy now as we have ever been and are so happy together.
Have a great wedding, and let me know which type of holiday you are looking for and I hope to help, we have been as far as the Scilly Isles, to the very far Wesstern Isles of Scotland.
