What it the best shampoo for a lab? I know their coat is water proof and I don't want to wash my lab puppy with the wrong kind of shampoo.

I use a pets@home puppy shampoo it says it is suitable for regular use it smells nice and is a foam that you supposedly don't have to rinse off but I do rinse it off and I only use it when he's really muddy or been in something nasty/stinky which isn't very often. Smile Lots of the shampoos smell like washing up liquid which I find rather worrying, wouldn't fancy using those on my dog! I did see some nice natural ones at the happystaffy.co.uk shop, someone on LF recommended the shop for something else but I can't remember who it was I'm afraid, but I haven't tried the shampoos etc from there yet. Smile

I hardly ever bathe Eddie (never Melvin), but Amber has sensitive skin and occasionally this helps. It's oatmeal based which makes a difference, more harsh shampoos have just aggravated her skin more Shocked

A lot of extremely experienced, top breeders use washing up liquid rather than a specific dog shampoo Laughing

Easing up liquid breaks down oil though which is surely worse Han using human shampoo because that will definately take all off the good stuff off of their coat?

I use hibiscrub - the antiseptic type of stuff you get from the vet for an op or infection. I only do it maybe twice a year - they really don't need washing, I just like to freshen their coats. I don't think fern has ever been done and grouse was last done 6-8 months ago. I used to use pets at home puppy shampoo too. Smile

I use this:
http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-accessories-dog-shampoos-dog-conditioners-c-628_637/wahl-tea-tree-shampoo-250ml-p-3773

Moss rolls in a lot of really horrible stuff so gets his right shoulder/neck shampooed very frequently and I find that this shampoo removes the smell quite well and seems gentle enough to use regularly.

They have a range of shampoos - including a puppy one.

I never shampoo Charlie, as he just doesn't seem to need it.

I do have to shampoo my cocker spaniel though. I only do it every couple of months, and the day before I plan to run the clippers over her (they work best if they are not clogging up with dirt). I just use baby shampoo, and have never had a problem.
