Im with John Lewis for both dogs.
Diesel's is £27pm. He has HD and i've claimed a few times hes 6
Harrys is £11 hes 18 months

That does seam really high for them. I have to say though i highly recommend them. I've had no problems and i have a great level of cover for both boys. I don't mind paying a little extra if its a company i know and trust but i do think its a little high for what you want.

Frank and Rosie are insured with MoreThan and have lifetime cover. Rosie is alot cheaper than Frank; she's only about £18 but Frank is costing me over £30 even though he's a year younger. I put it down to the fact she's a cross and Franks a purebreed.

Shocked Shocked My JL policy is £23 odd and that is lifetime cover and the top range for all the benefits. Tarka was 3 when I took it out, so yours seems very high.

Kate and Pat, I am wondering if the quote was high because I did it online, may give them a ring in the morning.

The details required when completing the the application online only asks the age of the dog and gender etc, nothing about existing problems or background, so maybe it is an area thing bumping it up, not sure why though.

Online is usually cheaper because there are fewer overheads.

You could ring them and suggest that they price match a comparable policy. They might bring their premium down to match another one.

However, if you go with them at a special price this year, they are likely to put their premium up next year and if you have claimed during the year you will then be stuck with them or have exclusions.

That does seem expensive. Inca is with John Lewis at about £21 per month.

Sable's premiums for a lifetime policy at the end of her life aged 14 (and with Cushings disease and having had mammary tumours) were £58 per month with Pet Protect.

Does yours have pre-existing conditions?

Fiona, the pre-existing conditions are the top eyelids, which I will have to pay for, as a bad job was done when he was a pup they were stitched up for some reason and now causing weeping eyes, and teeth which are in a pretty bad state, also have to pay for. Those two things and a twisted gut OP when he was younger are pre=existing on last vet who treated him.

As he has just had his neuter and still recovering, I will be delaying the teeth and eyes until he is fit enough.

When I did the quote on-line there was not a place for putting the already known conditions so the quote was not including anything to do with teeth or eyes.

I have only been looking at the lifetime covers with high cover each year, but am now thinking it may have to be a lower cover [I do find it all abit confusing].

I know I am in for a few hundred pounds [maybe more] without ins cover, but am resigned to that.

Kate, I have'nt made any phone calls yet, have been really busy today, it will be my monday task, and will do some ringing round, I prefer to speak to someone so nothing is left to chance.

Will also give the company we use for Mischa a try [ HELPUCOVER ] underwritten by Pinnacle, hers is £28.43 pm, but had that since she was a pup, may get discount for two dogs.

I did not realise the payments for age 6 would be so much, am thinking it might be worth doing a savings account of £50 per month for Bruno, as the excess always makes it a bit of a farce, I have paid out loads of vet fee's that are just under the excess, others probably have as well.
