I have been looking at John Lewis insurance as have read some satisfied posts on here recently, the quote I have got seems a lot [£51.62], is this because of the age of the dog being 6 years old.

Has anyone else got recomendations for insuring middle age dogs.

June

Seems very expensive to me! I get all 3 of mine covered for £38 per month from Elephant. I used to be with Direct Line and had the advanced cover which cost me £56 per month for the 3 of mine

It does seem high, I am with AXA and pay about £20 per month each for Pippa and Charlie. Oscar is still with Morethan and it is £26 per month.

I have claimed on Morethan and they are really good but you pay the excess plus 10% or the vet costs. I havent claimed on AXA but asked my vet who they would recommend before going with AXA.

Thanks Christine, I am wondering if the premium is high because I am just starting at age six, I will try a few more.

We are with Argos at 17.97 a month but Rufus is only 1. Might change to this one though when its up for renewal.

Don't know if anyone on here uses it?

Hi there,

I just sorted out insurance for my dog starting from his 6th birthday next week. With Direct Line I'll be paying £13 per month. It's not the most comprehensive policy out there but seemed to offer a lot for the price, I had similar quotes for the same cover costing about £30 per month.

Your John Lewis quote is higher than any of the quotes I got, I thought the £40 a month ones must be the top end price wise!

Jenny

It is a bit on the steep side. Mine is the bog standard Tesco's insurance. £18.85 a month for two dogs (one age 2, one aged Cool. Although I never fully rely on insurance paying out, so I put some aside in my own account "just in case". It also depends alot on how much excess you're willing to pay, and how much you want to be covered for. Check which boxes you have ticked and see if you're willing to reduce some of the cover.

Sorry, that was supposed to say "one aged 2 and one aged EIGHT" but it decided to convert it to a smiley, just like this one right here Smile

I'm with John Lewis and pay around £15-£18 per dog for their lifetime cover policy. My oldest dog is 3 but they've been insured with them since they were a year old. Your quote seems very expensive. I guess it must be to do with the age and perhaps also your postcode? I don't know if they'll bargain on price, but I really quite like the JL policy, so I think I'd be tempted to find cheaper elsewhere and see if they'd price match?

I think its the lifetime cover that is bumping it up, but that is what I really want. Have found cheaper without it.

Thanks -June
