Have just ordered 30kg of weaning/puppy food and I reckon even that won't be enough.
She's still got 4 weeks to go, and she is starting to show. I'm amazed at how much she has slowed herself down, taking things gently and god, is she eating for Britian...

Thanks for that post. We're at the health test stage at the moment, I've always accepted that this will be a money loss venture so that isn't a problem particularly. Like having children if I'm expecting either puppies or my 3 human babies to keep me in my old age I'm barking up the wrong tree.
Its the WHY question that I often want to answer to anyone who might ask, especially on forums like this one, it somehow just seems a thing I would like to do and lets face it if it was all about keeping a puppy (which I do want to do) there are plenty of fantastically bred ones out there. It may have to do with the breeding one of your own, or if things don't go to plan a whole litter for yourself Thats not meant flippantly the reality is that if I want another puppy it would be cheaper, easier and less risky to seek out one of the really well bred ones out there. Like you I have a lovely girl, I think she has traits worth passing on but no more vital to the labrador breed than many others, she's not a FTCH and is never likely to be. So in the end I think that maybe breeding is just something that you want to do and as long as that decision is an informed one and one that prepares for all the possible consequences and makes a life long commitment to every puppy that is bred, then it is one that only the owner can make. Sorry I'm waffling but its something I ponder, I guess there are similarities between breeding puppies and children, there are risks, its only ever going to cost you money and everyone and his wife will have an opinion about whether you should or you shouldn't

Thank you. you pouints are so true. I was concern about initially posting anything, as I expected to be slated by the "your bonkers, all dogs should be spayed / neutered at birth" brigade. I hadn't thought children were bred, but I guess they are. Saying that, I wouldn't want another me running round...
Lol I have 3 children so perhaps now I've given up breeding myself I need something to keep my maternal instincts in check. In some ways people have more of a right to an opinion with children. I have 3 they will in their time cost the taxpayer a fair amount of money in education etc
