Before I start, please note that I added the (+) for those of you who may need to provide extra meals due to health issues.

Please also note that I'm not including puppies/young dogs who will need little and often Wink

So all I really wanted to know is how many meals you feed, why, if you previously fed more/less than you do now and also what you feed?

Not for any real reason, just wanted to know opinions and I wanted to do a bit of a change to how and how often Murphy gets his food Smile

After six months of age, I feed all of mine twice a day..

Murphy looks a really finely built lab but i think that all dogs should be fed twice a day, after six months of age...
Do you????

For donkeys years, I fed my adult dogs once a day, as did my parents and grandparents before them. All mine used to get in the morning was a Bonio and a cup of milky tea. It wasn't until I had my first guide dog pup, that I felt Mojo and Tara would perhaps like a little "Brekkie" in the morning too (as they were staring enviously at the pup eating hers). So I started spliting their daily rations, about 1/3 in the morning and 2/3 in evening and have stuck with this pretty much ever since.

I don't generally feed 1/2 and 1/2, purely because they tend to have most of their exercise in the morning too and although I always leave it a couple of hours after eating, I still don't like to think of them running about on a full-ish belly. Plus they really like a nice BIG dinner and I think that sets them up for a nice long sleep overnight. Very Happy

Very Happy Very Happy

Mine get exercised before breakfast, get fed, sleep.. Play outside and watch telly with me and then get fed at tea time..

It may not appeal to everyone, butt I have six labs and we have a very calm household here at Shaymiloney...

I think 'Routine' is the word! Routine can be very varied but routine is the happiness to most doggy households.... x

Aflie was always fed 2 meals a day up until 2 weeks ago. Since the weather changed his brekkie was lying til it got lifted untouched some hours later. So started giving him a bonio in the morning and feeding him his meal at 4pm and he's not complaining. Alfie lets you know when he's hungry or you've past dinner time as he chucks the bowl out of the kitchen. Laughing So for now i'm leaving him this way, if he changes back then thats fine.

I feed twice a day, much the same as Jules.

Again I used to feed once a day with previous dogs but because we have to watch the weight with labs so much more than the other breeds we have had they get less treats. 24 hours is such a long time to go so hence the two meals a day.

Due to health issues (and on veterinary advice) Monty is on 5 meals per day.

This is because he has absorption problems in the gut, and also chronic pancreatitis. He has chicken breast, potatoes, and vegetables with a tiny bit of heart added in. Occasionally I substitute white fish or cottage cheese instead of the chicken.

I might add this costs a small fortune Rolling Eyes Because the diet is so limited he also has to have supplements.

Before I had to change him onto a home-cooked diet due to the digestive problems, he was on James Wellbeloved and had two feeds a day.

I might add that he looks as fit as a fiddle!

I put both of mine on two feeds per day by the time they reached 6 months of age.
I know some who only feed there dogs just the once per day, but just couldnt imagine that with my two Laughing
They get 1/2 and 1/2 of there daily rations morning and evening of Orijen which they do very well on Very Happy
The only time I seem to change things is if they have an upset tum where they will be fed little and often for a few days.

I think Murphy is labxJRT Wink Wink

When we were young, our dogs had cornflakes or weetabix and milk for brekkie and then a huge meal at tea time followed by a night time bonio
Now mine are fed 2 equal meals a day - brekkie and tea. They have 1/2 a large dentistix each at bedtime

My last dog Bertie was fed once a day in the evening, just as my parents dog was.
Meg was also fed once a day for years until Mole came along and I found lf and discovered that people fed twice a day. It made sense and so I do much the same as Jules now, they get about 1/3 in the morning and 2/3 in the evening.
