Do you get to 'walk the course' before you run it with Rufus? I'm learning more and more about where to place myself to get Luna to go in the right direction. The BEST bit of advice ever given to me by my trainer was 'Look at where the dog is coming from and where they are going to and put yourself where you can see both'. This ensures I turn in the right direction and place myself on the right side of a piece of equipment and when I cross. Very useful!
Every dog is different and it is common to see people at shows running a course how the rest of their club has decided to run it only to find that their dog doesn't work that way. I 'play' and try things out with Luna! Suggestions other people make tend to go horribly wrong which is giving me more and more confidence in the decisions I make for us!!
Luna is still better than me but no-one else is having her!
We started in february but we've could have started alot earlier than that. I think we could have started at 6-8 months ish but not sure. It is great fun, we do it at the same place we do normal training. If you go to a class it might be worth asking if they know of any near you!
We walk through the course and break the course into three sections and practise each bit. Then we put it all together. I think the problem is I'm running with him instead of ahead of him but he's soooo fast. I need to get fitter If I was slightly ahead he'd know where to go and we would cross over each other instead of into each other
I need to walk the course a few times (without dog but doing all the arms) just so that I can try to remember it otherwise it is usually me that goes wrong rather than Coco.
