Hi
I am just thinking about taking water on walks in this hot weather and I was wondering:
- how far does the walk have to be before you would actually carry water with you for your dog to have on the walk?
- how do you carry the water? - do you have to take a bag? It may be a silly question but I was walking yesterday with Bert in jeans and a t-shirt with a few poo-bags in my pocket - no-where to put a bottle of water and a bowl....
most of the walks we do in hot weather is usually to the river so they drink there or i have a fold up water bowl and take a bottle in a bumbag or a cross the shoulder bag
I have a dog walking bag. Its a small over the sholder bag.
Its great i keep my purse, keys, phone, toys, poo bags and treats. Its big enough to carry some water.
If im honest while its hot i take them to a place where they can have a swim. They never drank out of the bottle whilst on the walk so i started to leave it in the car. They would rather drink water from the river than from me
the folding bowls are really useful (thinks - must dig out mine and check it has no holes!) - then if you are not carrying water but find loos etc you can fill it so the dogs can have a drink.
I have a small dog walking bag with a fold up bowl and also a water bottle carrier but as most of our walks involve a plunge into the river by Laila at some point I have yet to use the bowl
Thanks - I didn't know that there were folding bowls. I will take a look now. We don't have any rivers by us - there are some pools/ponds but I am a bit worried about poisonous algae over the summer so am not sure about letting him go in them.
I keep a folding bowl in the car and usually put a large bottle of water in there too on a hot day, so they can all have a good glug as soon as we get back to the car. I also carry a small bottle of water in my Dog Bag (small over the shoulder khaki effort) and all my dogs will happily drink straight from the bottle. It's only when I take Una with me, I have to take the folding bowl too, as for some reason she is scared of bottles which squirt water.
I used to stuff things in jeans pockets like you, but one day my car keys fell out on a long walk and I lost them, which meant an even longer walk to go home and get the spares and another long walk back again. As I now don't have a spare key, I'm a bit more careful and like to know they are safely zipped up in a bag pocket, hence the Dog Bag.
I carry lightweight over shoulder bag [asda] it hold the balls, poo bags, bottle water [mischa drinks from bottle], purse, camera, keys, chucker, piriton, treats.
