Melvin's never ever had a bath/shampoo Laughing I tell people that and they think I must be mad.

Eddie had one when he was itchy (not that it did any good, he was suffering from acorn poisoning Shocked ), and Amber has one occasionally when her allergies flair up or when she's rolled in a dead fox Shocked Shocked

Ideally I'd never bathe any of them!!

I've only bathed Rufus when he's rolled in some disgusting and a quick hose down hasn't got rid of the smell (3 times in a year!). I tend to find washing his bedding gets rid of the smell of dog better than washing the dog! Very Happy

Charlie has hardly ever been bathed, as he just doesn't seem to need it. I brush dried mud out, and may give him the occasional hose down in warmer weather, but that is it.

My cocker spaniel (Topsy) gets shampooed every couple of months or so, as her coat grows long, hardly sheds at all, and picks up everything going. Rolling Eyes I do it a day or so before I want to run the clippers over her, as they work better if they are not clogging up with muck.

Best not to shampoo too often. It can damage the oily balance of their skin, as someone already mentioned.

Dog bedding is changed and washed every couple of weeks (occasionally more often if necessary), and that also helps keep doggy smells to a minimum in the house.

As in a previous similar thread it seems I am quite the opposite to most! Our 2 get bathed about every 6 - 8 wks, purely because they are BIG rollers and they are also allowed to go everywhere in the house..beds, sofas etc and they get stinky! They also get between 3-4 hrs walking a day and spend a lot of time with other (quite stinky) dogs! They swim alot - several times a week and also get hosed if muddy.

I use the Pets at Home puppy shampoo and despite the frequency in bathing they have fantastically shiny coats, lovely waterproofness (if there is such a word!) are never itchy and are always in great condition.

What suits one, won't suit another, do what's right for you as thats what matters!! Wink
