Sue, when I said I call in the vets for a weighin, it was not to see the vet, it was a jump on the scales in the waiting room, for my benefit when we first had difficulty keeping weight on Mischa, then after that, If I had a feeling she was going over her ideal weight.
Also, as she is between 25/26kg and we use Advocate, I like to know the dose is correct.
June.
edited- oh, and we don't get anything else at the vets for free

i didn't say anyone was wrong for getting their dogs weighed - like you - we periodically pop in for the gang to be weighed - although as they are all over 25kg and below 40kg the dosage for worming and flea treatments shouldn't really be impacted within their weight range
I am a little surprised at the number of people I see who say they are shocked at their dog having put on weight, and yet there are no visible signs - Labs can easily be identified as over / under weight possibly more than any most breeds - so - just a little surprised that the first people know of it is through the weighing scales - suggesting that the weight gain may on occasions be natural growth rather than fat.
the last time Indy weighed in at the vets he was almost 1kg more than I expected. As we left he had a poo. Being the sad dog person I am I went back in and weighed him again (I drew the line at weighing the bag of poo! ) and he had lost about 0.8kg!! Of poo!! I know that he does massive poos - but surely they shouldn't be that big???
My two are currently on Arden Grange (the lamb flavour one). I feed Charlie around 260g per day I do believe, split over two meals and soaked in plenty of water. Topsy (cocker spaniel) gets around 150 - 160g per day. It is on the higher side for protein and calories, so I don't find that either of them needs as much as they do on other food.
They have been on AG for several months now. For the last few years Charlie has hovered around the 27 - 28 kg mark for body weight, and although I have not had him weighed for a while, he does not look to have changed to me. Topsy has filled out ever so slightly, but she did need to, and I am now happy with both of them.
