I have read a large number of posts on various forums and people rave about how good chappie(wet) is for upset stomachs and I just wondered out of interest as to why this is? It's a cheap food(nothing wrong with that) but seems to be full of things people say to avoid if dog has sensitive stomach. Does anyone use this as a full time feed for there dog? I'm interested because I am having issues with my puppy's sloppy stools and nothing has helped so far and I have been considering changing him to a grain free food to see if that helps. At the mo he's on jwb turkey and rice puppy food. I understand you can't use chappie as a complete food for a puppy. I'm just baffled how when it seems people have tried various different foods and some of them being very expensive ones to no avail that something a cheap and cheerful as chappie works wonders for there pet!!
Chappie has been around for 70 years, but as pet food manufacturers have grown so have their marketing budgets so we are bombarded with other brands constantly and made to feel guilty if our tin is cheap.
Many vets will actually suggest using Chappie now for recouperating dogs and those that need a sensitive diet, although there are still those that will try and flog you the expensive Hills and RC brands.
Chappie contains fish, chicken and wholegrain cereal and is a complete food, there is no reason you can't feed this to your puppy.
Remember it's only fairly recently that Pet food manufacturers brought out food for age groups, in the old days it was one food for all ages.

I fed Diesel chappie for almost 9 months.
He had such a bad stomach and didn't seam to get better on anything i tried. Someone suggested chappie but i was cautious as i was getting the higher priced foods and they weren't helping him so why get the cheaper? It worked within a few days. I was really shocked at how fast it worked and what the results were like.
I left him on it for a number of months to give him stomach a chance to settle. I gradually introduced nature diet and reintroduced some kibble over 2 month and so far so good.
I can still tell if hes eaten something he shouldn't have done but his stomach as settled really well after using chappie.

I don`t think Chappie is as cheap as it used to be but its still a good food for dogs with iffy tums, I think its because it "mashed" and so is nce and easy for the dog to digest without overworking their tums.
Just because a food is expensive it doesn`t mean its good, as with most things a lot of them your paying for the name.
When I was growing up our dogs were fed mainly table scraps and (horror of horrors) cooked bones from the sunday roast!, along with Kennomeat which was one of very few "commercial" dogs foods on the market at that time, I don`t remember any of them having tummy problems.
That's the thing I don't understand all these expensive food that are hypo allergenic and grainfree ect and the dog does better on tins of chappie. My parents had a lab x who used to eat chappie and table scraps(mum even fed her White choc buttons as a treat ) and she lived to be 14yrs old.

That's probably because what's in a tin of Chappie is more natural for a dog's digestive system than dry brown balls of goodness knows what .
I used Chappie on and off for years, not because mine had dodgy bellies, but simply because it was one of the better tinned foods around at the time. My dogs did really well on it and never ailed and I know many people used it if their dogs had iffy tums. I don't think there is anything grossly unnatural in the tinned Chappie. I'm not sure about the dried stuff though.
I often wonder if many of these allergies and sensitive tum issues have been bought on somehow by all the additives in dried food, as most of them have to top up the vitamin and mineral content artificially, to make up for losing them out of the original ingredients as they're dried......And don't even get me started on EC permitted Preservatives .
I have fed JWB to my two for about 2 years as George had many allergies but Benson was ill just after Christmas and was vomiting every day. We never discovered why but the only food he would keep down was Chappie. We have now got him to the point of eating half kibble and half Chappie and he seems absolutely fine. I really rate it for digestive problems.
I went out and bought a tin yesterday and gave him some for his evening meal( he loved it) and then again this morning and I can't believe it but he did the first normal poop he has done for weeks. Have been giving him it for all his meals and two poops down all normal. I'm amazed how it can work so quickly but am so glad it does. The only issue I have is I don't know how much to feed him, just been playing it by ear really. Have ordered some fish4dogs for him today and gonna keep him on chappie till that arrives and then do a very slow change over and keep my fingers crossed!!
I always have a few cans of chappie in the house, Hunter can be quite sensitive and again chappie is the only thing that will settle him, he also gets a kong with frozen chappie in daily which he loves
