I have a soft bristle brush which doesn't really do anything and last week bought a mikki Slicker brush which he absolutely hates so won't use that again. Have seen both the lethal looking shredding blade and furminator just wondered which you would use or should I just get a grooming glove. Max is only 12 1/2 weeks which would be best for this age?? Thanks.

I wouldn't worry too much about grooming just yet! Labs coats are very independent and don't really need any maintenance!

I only use a furminator when the boys are shedding as its for removing the loose undercoat.

I use a Zoom Groom on Pasco as he has very little undercoat but still sheds all the same!

I haven't really groomed Zephyr at all yet, other than a few passes with the furminator to get him used to the idea.

If it had to be one thing I thought I couldn't do without, it would be a furminator though Smile This picture shoes why! Wink

I didn't really groom Charlie until he was about 6 months old, apart from with a soft brush to get him used to it.

I also bought a slicker brush which Charlie hated, but now use a furminator and it is just fantastic Very Happy

May have to invest in one of them. Just wasn't sure if either product was really suitable for a puppy. I use the soft brush on him maybe once a week. But hardly any loose hair comes off it's all over the carpet instead!! Lol. Can't believe the amount of fur in that pic you could make a new dog put of that lot! Laughing

You won't get much hair from a puppy, its basically still growing coat! That picture was taken was 12 months old and that was his first moult.

Could I just say I would always groom a pup from tiny with a soft brush purely as part of "general handling" . If you have got them used to standing quietly to be brushed they will be much easier for the vets etc. to handle when necessary.

Grooming, checking ears, teeth and handling feet should be something that everyone does with there pups. Believe me it will make your life much easier later on Very Happy.

I used a soft brush as Jill says, to get Rufus used to being groomed. I also used to pretend to clip/gently file his nails. I then got a furminator when he was about 10months old.

That photo always makes me laugh Fee Laughing !!

We just used a brush, but did'nt really get any hair out, as everyone said it gets them used to standing nicely for the future, but Mischa is not very good when grooming now, she gets fed up very quickly Rolling Eyes . [I must have done something wrong along the way]

Fee, that pic is gorgeous, I am surprised Hudson did'nt look skeletal after losing that lot Smile .

Def wouldn't use furminator on a puppy as would be worried about catching that little skin Confused

I use a furminator on Dylan now and it's fantastic. have used it since he was about 1 and only when he is noticeably shedding.

Also I only use it on his top half and round the back of his legs as would be worried about catching his tummy with it cos fur too thin there.

Got my furminator on e bay much much cheaper than the shops Very Happy
