Having been inspired by the wonderful Test write-ups here is my attempt at writing up our 'tests' yesterday!
British Agility Association
Tailwaggers Show at Alsager
Run 1. Introductory Jumping class:
Judge: Barbara Stevens
(You are allowed to run your dog with a silent toy in Intro classes but Luna enjoys agility so much I don't anymore )
This was a lovely course with a hockey stick shape of jumps running down the middle of the ring with a right turn at the top bending into a tunnel taking you across the hockey stick towards another tunnel which brought you symmetrically back to the centre hockey stick in a straight line of jumps to the finish! I decided to do 2 crosses whilst Luna was in the tunnel which I didn't really HAVE to do but as Luna tends to very much run towards me it would prevent my positioning pulling her onto the wrong jump. She ran her little heart out on this course and couldn't have done any of it any faster! I think my go-go-go squeaks helped and at the end I was all out sprinting - forget any arm pointing! so that she kept going straight down the line! She beat me to the end still!!!!!
Luna's speedy little labbie legs brought us home a lovely 6th place rosette
Run 2. Primary Agility:
Judge: Steve Mellor
I have a few intertwined theories on why our winter season agility hasn't gone so well as last summer - that's for a later thread
This course had an awkward beginning with 2 straight jumps followed by a tight right turn to come back into a box shape. I was so worried by 2 prospective traps - aframe and jump that wide turning Luna could focus on that I really heavily closely controlled Luna and completely lost the position of the 3rd jump resulting in more heavy close control in a circle to get her over it 5 faults for refusal - MY FAULT! dog walk x2 and aframe and see saw all completed with no contact issues. She popped out of 6 weaves I THINK because I held back instead of moving forward giving us another 5 faults
Result: 10 faults plus 4 time faults as we went over course time which still placed us 6th in that class!!!! Sorry Luna!
Run3. Primary Triple A Agility:
Judge: Mike Walker
Bad handler moment again as I failed to realise that this course was being walked due to preparing for Run 4 and suddenly realised it was running Hastily watched as many dogs running it as possible in order to know what to do! Course was set a bit like a butterfly shape with Aframe in the middle. Ran up and over Aframe first time and peeled off round left wing before turning to come back - with a change of sides for handler, over Aframe for second time peeling off round right wing turning back - with another change of sides for handler- to turn and take Aframe for final time! Peeling off to the left wing again but without turning so on a diagonal line to the finish!
We probably could have completed this faster if I had walked the course before hand but Luna did absolutely nothing wrong, hit all her contacts and had a very steady run placing us 4th Our best result so far in this higher level of competing and I was well chuffed!!! Only 2 placed rosettes were awarded and we await a very prized Clear rosette to be posted out to us!!!
Run4. Introductory OMG Jumping:
Judge: Pip Stevens
This consisted of 2 courses - a blue run and a red run each of 20 obstacles set up as a back to front and a front to back run. Handler had to walk both courses then choose a ball on the start line to indicate which course you would run with your dog. We got a red ball which I slightly preferred due to the placement of a jump after a tunnel being more suited to Luna's flow. We ran steadily and fast - she'd lost quite a bit of pace from the morning as the day had got hotter and she had got more tired! - so achieved a 5th place!!
We had a great day out! Met lots of lovely people and dogs! Luna wore her Birthday rosette with pride and her doggy pals enjoyed the Marmite birthday cakes she kindly shared with them!
It was the final Winter season BAA competition so we hung around to see who had won the Tailwaggers Series Leagues. Luna isn't in the running for these at all as some of the other dogs are so consistently outstanding but she still finished 11th place in the overall Gundog League amongst dogs of all levels
So proud of my little black lunatic!! (And no sign of any lameness, stiffness or discomfort on those front legs in the bestest result we could ever have!!!)
If you are a member of an agility club ask if they'd take a look at the BAA website and consider putting on a BAA show. Luna and I love jumping Medium height but there aren't enough shows out there making the height available especially up North of us!
Roll on Easter weekend when the Summer outdoor shows begin and our huuuge tent gets it's first outing too
Pics: (edited to add nicer, sunnier, neater tailgate pic albeit with a sleepy dog posing!)
Winter season Achievements:
1st 2x2nds, 4th, 5th, 6th, 10th and 12 clear round rosettes
6th in Intro Jumping, 5th in Intro OMG Jumping and a clear round rosette to follow for Primary Triple A Agility
Edited to add the morning after the party day before pic:
Today has only involved toilet trips to the garden, eating and sleeping, sleeping, sleeping and a bit more sleep

Thanks all! Have to confess that the show placed you according to height which helps with our placings and rosettes! When we are slotted in with the rest of the Intro/Prim heights we generally fall down the placings!
It's great that BAA shows are generous with the rosettes as the OUTSTANDING dogs clearly shine through at the top and get their just rewards but us fun-seekers gain some reward, confidence and addiction as a result too!
Not quite belated yet Emma! Luna's birthday is Wednesday but every true party girl has a weekend party
I'm really interested in the BAA heights as Lincoln is starting to struggle at UKA heights he does like to duck underneath so I am going to investigate this further!
I also like the fact they are generous with rosettes and they look really cool!
your results are stunning though we think we have done well with clear rounds!
IF you could make it up to Asfordby Roz Luna would love to host Lincoln and show him all the best sniff spots, stinky roll patches and smelly muddy water dunking pits on HER patch!!
Personally, I think that BAA jump heights, measuring and distances between obstacles were made for speedy smaller working labs!

that sounds very inviting but bringing Lincoln means bringing Dollop! now he is a right pain when not the centre of attention!
However I have spied a show at Redditch Worcs in July..am gonna look what I need to do, regarding qualifying/entering is it really very different from UKA? do I need to get measured? or run course differently?
Not too many shows down this neck of the woods are there? I'm beginning to see how tribal these different associations are!
