My daughter has just come home with a very old black spaniel, he was in the middle of a ver busy road near us so she just stopped and scooped him/her up and brought him home. I cant see if it is a boy or a girl and I don't want to annoy him too much. He is very, very old and has a large lump on one side. I have phoned the police and no one has reported losing him, it is too late for the warden so I am at a bit of a loss as to what to so next. Any sugestions?

Lorna

Have you got an old crate?

I'd offer him some food and give him a bed for the night and see what you can do in the morning?

Put him on doglost as found.

Call your vet and see if they are willing to take a look at him/scan him or if any others will in the area. Awful to say but he could have been dumped due to illness. I'm guessing he has no collar.

Does he seem hungry? Perhaps feed him some chicken/rice or scrambled egg.

Will he settle for the night with you? Are you happy to keep him overnight?

Tomorrow morning you could head back to where he was found and knock on a few doors to see if anyone knows him...

I dont have a crate Fee, I am happy to keep himm overnight, I have told the police that if anyone reports him missing to phone me whatever time it is. I have a horrible feeling he has been dumped, he is so old and the lump on his side is pretty massive Sad

Poor little soul Sad , if he has no identity tag he may have a chip, could you google a rescue that is nearest to your post code, there may be a telephone number to ring and get advise, or hopefully someone on hear can put you in touch with a rescue.

Well done to your daughter for bringing him/her home.

xx

I would also offer him a small amount of food and see what I could do about bedding him down for the night.

Then, in the morning I would phone around all the local vets I could think of and explain what has happened. They might agree to scan him and see whether or not he is micro-chipped. I wonder whether or not the lump on his side is an injury from being dumped, or something else!! Confused

Poor boy (if it is a boy). Sad I take it there was no collar and tag! Evil or Very Mad

Oh poor old chap Sad At least your daughter scooped him up and he will get a warm bed for the night. I would call the vets like others have said and see what happens from there. It would be so sad if he had been dumped though and ended up in kennels. Poor chap.

you could get a vet to scan it tomorrow see if there is a chip.
Contact the dog warden but they take to the pound ( not nice for an old boy/girl and risk being pts after 7 days if they are unclaimed or can't find a home Sad Maybe tomorrow you ask around the area. Take a picture and print off few found posters.
You can go on dogs lost http://www.doglost.co.uk/index.php and post a dogs found notice. A picture would be handy for this too if poss.I've seen quite a few who have found dogs and they have been reunited through the site. The people on there are fantastic and can advise.
Poor thing, there is probably someone frantic to find him Sad Hope you find his owner tomorrow x
