The letter I received said, and I quote:
"You were also concerned about the conditions of the kennels and your dogs when you collected them the following day. I have spoken to the RSPCA officer who advised me that they have made two visits to the kennels (one of which was unannounced) and they did not find any reason for concern. They kennels were found to be clean and water and food available for the dogs. A further unannounced visit will also be made by the council's licensing officer and the situation monitored"
It made me wonder why the RSPCA had in the first instance found it necessary to visit the kennel concerned!
With regard to the above, I replied as follows:
The condition of the dogs when we went to collect them did indeed cause us considerable concern. We had water with us in the car, and between them, the two dogs drank all the water we had, which was in fact several litres. As I am sure you will appreciate, if a dog has free access to water, which it certainly should have in any reputable kennel, then it would not be desperate for water. The skin of both dogs showed significant signs of dehydration, which inevitably leads me to the conclusion that neither animal had been given any water since their arrival at the kennel the previous day. When a dog is dehydrated, just like a human, its skin loses elasticity. When a dog’s skin is gently pinched between thumb and forefinger and then released, it should pop back into place immediately, and in neither dog did this happen.
I do not really expect to receive any reply, as quite frankly I think this is what could best be termed "A Whitewash"!
Even after this time I remain extremely angry that this happened at all, and I have heard other appalling stories of dogs being taken to this kennel without the owners being notified.
One particular case centres around an elderly lady who had no transport to go and collect her dog. But for the kindness of someone who too her to the kennel, the dog would have been disposed of.

mmmmmm as you say why have the RSPCA been there twice! I'm sure there are many kennels that never get visits. I thought a complaint had to be made for them to visit.
Good for you for replying again but it seems they are just covering their backsides now.
I think the press may be more interested or someone like watchdog. x
