This lovely girlie is in an Oldies Club foster home and waiting patiently for her forever home
Starry is a 14 year old Labrador cross who came into Oldies Club care after her previous owner sadly had to move to residential care. Starry spent over five months in kennels in the year before coming into foster care and she would now really like to find a permanent home of her own
Starry is currently in foster with two other dogs and is great with dogs she meets outside on walks too. Here she is with one of the other dogs in her foster home (Starry is of course the black girl on the left).
She's definitely fine to share her forever home with another dog(s) following successful introductions She would prefer to share with a mature, steady dog though and would probably not cope so well with a boisterous youngster.
Starry lived with a cat in her previous home, so again could be considered by homes with a cat. She is not used to living with children so we are looking to place her in a home where any children are at least of teen-age.
Her foster Mum says that Starry would like a home where someone is around a lot as that is what she is used to, although she has been fine when left at the foster home for a few hours, with the company of the other dogs in the home.
Starry is looking for a confident/experienced owner as she has nipped on a couple of occasions when she has felt frightened or in pain.
This lovely girl does have a heart murmur, although medication for this is not currently required. She also has an old cruciate ligament injury and a few fatty lumps. Please read through all the info on Starry on her OC page:

If you feel you could offer a loving and suitable home for Starry, please contact Oldies Club via the contact details on the above link. She is being fostered in Tyne & Wear but Oldies Club will rehome across the UK, following a successful home visit, provided potential adopters are willing to travel to the foster home to meet the dog concerned.
Good luck Starry

Can I just ask a question about Oldies please? I guess if you adopt from Oldies, you would not be able to take out insurance, as the dog would be too old?

Hi Jo - good question
I would say that was probably true some years ago but these days there are definitely companies who insure older dogs. Existing conditions would be excluded of course, but I have still insured my oldies, just in case.
Our oldies have come to us around the age of 12. Our previous oldie was insured with M&S (when they were underwritten by AXA) and Jasper is insured by PetPlan (who I'm sure wouldn't have insured him years ago).
We received a few free weeks insurance from them after he was chipped and I just continued the policy. So at age 12, he was insured, but with exclusions for his heart (murmur) and arthritis.
Just my experience If anyone is thinking of adopting an older dog, they could always run an insurance quote through a few different companies for the sort of dog/age/location applicable. Insurance policies tend to be cheaper for crossbreeds than purebreeds too.
I haven't tried insuring a 14 year old dog, but 12 was not a problem.
Also worth noting that although Starry is an older oldie, we list dogs aged seven plus, so there are younger oldies (or middle aged!) dogs too.
The alternative would be to have some savings put by for vet bills, though I think I'd always look to have liability type insurance these days anyway!
Thanks for that Angela - the reason I asked is because my sister struggled to get her oldie covered so she puts money away for vet bills too
Was it a fairly recent adoption? The first dog we insured as an oldie was going back to 2003. I know at one point some companies wouldn't start to insure a dog if they were older than about 8-9 years, but some definitely do these days
Amazingly, the gorgeous Starry is still waiting for her forever home. She has had some new photos taken and is currently our Old Dog of the Week at Oldies Club.
