As a professional pet sitter i get a mixed response when i tell people my prices for 24hr home boarding. I am interested to know how much the dog owners on this forum pay for dog boarding? And what do you think is a reasonable price?

Hello
Barney's sitter is a lovely lady who gives a taster session of half a day to new customers free of charge, so that it is not such a shock for the dog when it is left the first time and she can see how the dog fits in before taking it for longer.

She charges £12 per day or £15 per day and night per dog. She gives all the dogs a good off lead hooley in the morning and then a lead walk at tea time.

I think her charges work out to just a pound or two more than local kennels which I feel is excellent value as Barney gets much more one to one care.

Hope this helps!

I suppose like many things, it would depend where you are based eg. around a big city like London, it can be more expensive.

This being said, I am aware of prices in my area, Hertfordshire, to be around £10 to £12 per hour for doggy walking which I think includes the pick up and return, so the walk is actually about 45 minutes.

Day care is about £15 to £20 and overnight can be around this or up to £25.

I think it also depends on how many dogs the walker walks at any one time. I met a dog walker with about 8 dogs plus toddler in a buggy..... it was mayhem. Don't know what she charged and wouldn't have asked as it was so chaotic and she was on the phone at the same time Rolling Eyes .

Your prices look reasonable to me. I think it is a huge responsibility walking and caring for other peoples dogs. Some people always want something for nothing.

Thankyou barneysma, yes that does help. We also offer a free taster day for the same reasons. That is very good value, does she have a large number of dogs at any one time? My prices are quite a bit higher than that at £21 per night. It's very intersting as to how much the price differs.... maybe it's partly to do with area and demand. We only have a maximum of 4 dogs usually only 1 or 2. Other sitters in my area charge a similar amount so i based my price on them.

Barney looks lovely by the way.

I pay £11 per day, or £15 per day & night..

My dog sitter, wont have no more than 3 during the day, and no more than 2 overnight - on the basis that whoever books first, the second dog has to get on with the first..

"average" prices for a 1 hour walk, are around £8.50!

we use to have a dog sitter for Indi and she charged around £12 for a day and would come in twice or more depending on Indi - especially when she was a pup and we were mid toilet training! She would also bring in other dogs before Indi could go for long lead walks and then use to take her on walks with other dogs when she was able to go outside! She never stopped the night but i doubt it would have been much more than £20 a night. I think your prices are reasonable and I would certainly be happy to pay between £20-£30 a night for my dog to be looked after in a home rather than in a kennels and definitely getting more 1 to 1 special time seeing as she is very much an affectionate and loving dog and prefers being round people!

I charge £22 per night for overnight home boarding and £18 for daycare.

The prices are based on what I found on other folks websites from all over the UK. So I think £15 for a night sounds very cheap! But then, I am in a rural area so there is likely to be less demand.

Sorry YatePetSitters, have just seen your question. I think she is licenced for 5 or 6 dogs, including her own. I think perhaps she has purposely set her prices to be just a little more than local kennels. I forgot to mention that she also very kindly usually sends me a text during the holiday saying that Barney is doing fine, which is a lovely idea.

Barney says thank you for the compliment Very Happy

Carolyn - yes, she lives off Ermin Street (the A420 end of it) in Stratton.

I can give you her detals (via PM) if you like? Carly absolutely loves it there Smile
