Just imagine if he tried to bite on the lead and a tooth went through a link
I really would never have thought of that
Lorraine makes a good point, verbal correction and stopping walking until his chops are off the lead usually helps train the behaviour out. It's just an outlet for his excitement and the need to put something in his mouth.
Thank you all for your responses. I'm glad I asked because it does help to take on board other peoples opinions and view points. Much appreciated.
I think I will have to be firmer with the training. Buddy does respond very well to 'Leave it' or 'Give' and for some strange reason, I have not used it for his lead chewing . I think I need more training than my pooch .
Now Willow is on a training rope slip lead she has stopped chewing on it. Dont know why maybe she is just growing out of it and she cant pull back and lose the lead either so I would say get a slip lead they are much cheaper too. I love ours it is so easy especially if it is fitted the correct way round. I would be worried about losing my dog rather the loss of a tooth but if both can be avoided then that is best.
