Is it something that's really necessary? I'm not really interested years or dates of birth nor gender in particular. Nor do I want all and sundry to see my personal things. I'm happy for the forum owners to have information but I don't think it's necessary for it to be available for public view. I know you can disable it but it just seems...well... a bit unnecessary. Is it just me?

It is only fun stuff Nicola, no other reason. Age etc has been on the site for months I haven't changed that, it is used for the birthday alerts etc, its actually meant to bring a community together

Same with Gender as obviously the regulars know who is who, but as a newbie to the site it is meant to make the transition from a lurker to a member easier as you get to know who is who quicker

I'm not particularly fussed over whether we see the year of birth and sex of subscribers (was going to say 'members' but thought that might be misinterpreted when mentioned in the same sentence as sex Embarassed )
However, I remember that when I first joined there was a way of navigating directly from one forum section to another without having to go back to the main page, I think there was a list down the left side. Would it be possible to bring that back, it would save us going backwards and forwards as we move down the different forums? Just a thought while all the other changes are being implemented, but no big deal if it can't.

No worries, I was just trying to "lighten your load," as it were. Very Happy Also I have thoughts about stuff like data protection etc. Sorry, one of the hazards of my former life. The more information you have the more likely the potential for breaches. Just me, don't worry too much. Not sure anyway how the rules of data protection apply to forums.

I think I shall remain androgynous lol... I don't like it to be plainly seen anywhere public and online that I'm female - have had problems in the past with my gender being visible on a profile.

(OK, so there probably aren't many Kaits who are male but that isn't as obvious Laughing )

Totally understand it's just fun stuff - so not a complaint, just an observation. Smile

"Never put anything online you wouldn't want to see on the side of a double decker bus"

That's what we tell the children (I work with a number of schools) and its good way of deciding whether or not you ought to write something or not, after all the net is basically the worlds largest advertising board...! Laughing
