I have read a few posts on LF since my return and would very much like to indicate my acknowledgement, but feel that writing a new post would be unnecessary, frequently it has also been that case I that I am not 'thanking' a member...

I just wondered whether we should/could add a 'like' button or change the 'thank' button to reflect this? Confused

What does everyone else think?

Bernie - I have a tablet for you, I know this might involve change! Wink Laughing

What a good idea my matey..
I often have to 'thank' someone but sometimes a 'like' is much more appropriate.

I take 'thank' as literally that and I think if i thank someone they'll wonder why if it wasn't anything to do with me (if you see what I mean)

That's exactly where I was coming from... you described it better than I can! Smile

rep isn`t on facebook, a lot of other forums use it and put little blobs next to your username to represent how much rep you have eg - 0-100 rep is 1 blob and so on. think it`s to show someone has been around for quite some time and is a trustworthy and helpful source (although i have seen people try to abuse it by asking for free rep but the post gets deleted swiftly). likewise if someone comes on to purposely cause an argument or write nasty comments a negative rep can be left....if the negative reps outweigh the positive then the user would have a red blob next to their name. you can give positive rep for anything although can`t give to the same person more than once in every say 50 reps you hand out and you can only give up to 20 per day. the negative rep requires you to provide a reason for giving it.

dunno if that made any sense whatsoever as i`m useless at explaining things but it does seem to work

It made complete sense and I understand what you mean now... I have not seen it before, but then again I don't really go on a lot of other forums. Thanks

'Thank' is appropriate if someone gives you a reply to your post, or you have found it helpful, at least you have'nt ignored them, whereas a 'Like' would be fitting if all you want to do is show you like their pic, or something they say.

Thats my opinion, both would be good, but if its down to choice of one or other, it would be a 'Thank' from me.

'Thank' or 'Like' - it all seems the same to mean and show the same thing to me; I think one or the other is appropriate and two is overkill! Very Happy

I'd like a like button as well as the thank button. Wink
I feel silly thanking someone when I like their post! Rolling Eyes

Maybe we could have a poll to find out what's most wanted:-
1)keep it as it is at the moment
2)have a like and thank button
I'm not technic-savvy so I don't know how easy/hard it is to organise! Rolling Eyes but maybe someone could be kind enough to do it for us?? Wink

I like the idea of a like button as well as a thank you button cos to me they mean two different things Very Happy

Showing my ignorance here but isn't the rep button thingie the same as the number of paw marks we have here under our names? Think scratch
