I have read a few posts on LF since my return and would very much like to indicate my acknowledgement, but feel that writing a new post would be unnecessary, frequently it has also been that case I that I am not 'thanking' a member...

I just wondered whether we should/could add a 'like' button or change the 'thank' button to reflect this? Confused

What does everyone else think?

Bernie - I have a tablet for you, I know this might involve change! Wink Laughing

i dunno i think the thank button serves the same purpose and so it would basically be a case of changing the wording which isn`t really necessary. another forum has recently added the like button in addition to reputation and it just seems rather pointless having both things.

i do like the fact that when giving rep on there you can write a little private note to the receiver stating why you gave rep if you chose to do so.

I tend to use the thank button for that purpose tbh. If it's not my thread but I really like someones post i'll 'thank' them as an indicator of that.

Ditto, Sarah.
The funny thing with the 'thank' button is that if you post a thread and people write directly to you, i thank them, but then if they have a conversation between themselves because their comment sparked a question or whatever, i feel mean leaving gaps in the thread, even though it wasn't *to* me, it was on *my* thread and I never know where you stand not to be a gushing fool or a pompous twonk on that one.

I'm not sure what a 'rep' button is not being on Facebook.

I think a 'like' button would be good.

I take 'thank' as literally that and I think if i thank someone they'll wonder why if it wasn't anything to do with me (if you see what I mean)

I tend to use the thanks button to

1) thank people for their reply
2) to acknowledge that I have seen the reply
3) to agree with someone's point of view
4) to like a photo

so to me... I think it is all in a word and I had taken it as read that to thank someone on a post could mean a variety of POSITIVE meanings! Wink

On facebook the "like" button gets used alot. I have seen it used in response to someone saying Im sad about xyz. they then get a "like" thingy ticked by a friend... I often think huh some friend but reality is - that it is acknowledging that it has been seen by that person and they didnt want to "read and run" as it were.

I think I probably over "thank" people but then that is my upbringing so I will automatically thank all nice replies - thanking for the time that person has taken in replying to my post!

so perhaps Im a gushing fool!! who knows...but I was bought up to be polite Wink so in my book it shouldnt cause harm to thank people? Wink

I have no idea what the rep thing is either (and I use facebook - is it on facebook then?!! Embarassed )

Personally I like "thank". The world is being taken over by facebook, and I don't see why we have to follow.
I "thank" people not just for replying to my posts, but for contributing something I find valuable, or just because I like what they have said.

I'll bog off now in my anti facebook bah humbug stylee.....
