AN UPDATE
I read this in the paper this afternoon so I thought I'd share it -
SCI - symptoms include vomitting, diarrhoea, lethargy
Deaths - 11 in the last 3 years in Notts - 8 in 2009, 2 in 2010 and 1 in 2011. The death in 2011 was a Boxer who had been walking in Intake Woods near Clipstone.
Ill but recovered with quick Vet treatment - 13 reported cases in 2011 - 4 at Centre Parks, 3 at Clumber Park, 2 at Sherwood Pines Forest Park and 2 at Blidworth Woods as well as 2 where the location was not reported.
Most cases have occured between August and October shortly after dogs have walked in wooded areas.
The AHT have yet to identify the cause - they now think it might be something to do with harvest mites.
Links are also being investigated between SCI and wood pigeons and perhaps other bird species.
---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------
Hope that's of use to some of you, it certainly makes me a bit wary.
