Had an email update this week talking about the investigation turning to harvest mites and birds... they haven't found any plant sources so are looking into animal sources:

http://www.aht.org.uk/cms-display/sci_causes.html

P eople walking dogs at Sandringham Estate, Thetford Forest (Norfolk), Clumber Park or Sherwood Forest (Notts) and Rendleshem Forest (Suffolk) are being asked to complete questionnaires http://www.aht.org.uk/cms-display/sci_questionnaire.html

whether or not dogs fell ill!

They do say that these places don't see to be at any greater risk of other woodland... the list of places affected is huge...

AN UPDATE

I read this in the paper this afternoon so I thought I'd share it -

SCI - symptoms include vomitting, diarrhoea, lethargy

Deaths - 11 in the last 3 years in Notts - 8 in 2009, 2 in 2010 and 1 in 2011. The death in 2011 was a Boxer who had been walking in Intake Woods near Clipstone.

Ill but recovered with quick Vet treatment - 13 reported cases in 2011 - 4 at Centre Parks, 3 at Clumber Park, 2 at Sherwood Pines Forest Park and 2 at Blidworth Woods as well as 2 where the location was not reported.

Most cases have occured between August and October shortly after dogs have walked in wooded areas.

The AHT have yet to identify the cause - they now think it might be something to do with harvest mites.

Links are also being investigated between SCI and wood pigeons and perhaps other bird species.

---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------
Hope that's of use to some of you, it certainly makes me a bit wary.
