We have a 9 month old chocolate lab bitch. Recently we had 2 people state she was fat. Now looking at her above you can see where her ribs are but not see the ribs but feel them. She has a tucked waist that goes in by the ribs and a big rear. Her parents were both large dogs and is more the show line rather than the gun dog line. We regulate her food (she is on royal canin labrador specific junior food) and weigh it out. She is fed for under her weight so we can make up the amount with treats etc as we do use small treats whilst training when we take her for walks. I walk her once a day on a 2.5 mile walk which is about 45 mins. She doesnt look fat and she doesnt really have much excess skin. We just weighed her and she was 32.8 kg. Im worried about what I should do as 2 people have said she is fat - I dont think she is as when we got her she was classed as obese by our vet and we cut her diet and she lost lots of the weight! Help!
Firstly whats her name because she is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!
I don't think she looks fat. Our Frank is show bred and they are heavier set than working line dogs. If you can feel her ribs then put it this way... she's not as fat as Frank!!
I wouldn't worry too much; she's a bueatiful girl...what a face! She also looks in good condition; lovely dark chocolate coat!

her name is Indi (short for Indianna - husband named her after indianna jones who was named after the family dog!! lol) She is very sweet!
She is a dark chocolate apparently thats how chocs should be!
She has a gorgeous temperament. So mellow! She is currently lay at my feet snoring away and twitching with little baby barks! Could eat her with a giant spoon. LOL! Would munch her every minute of the day. She is so sweet and so clever she opens and closes doors, salutes, sits, gives both paws, leopard crawls across the floor, sits close, heels, comes when called. Recently taken to putting herself back in her crate too! Very clever!
Its not that easy to tell from those pics but Indi looks fine to me, was it a vet who said she`s overweight now?
If you could try and get another pic of her from above if poss or a side view but without the snow, dark dogs don`t seem to photograph well in the glare.
she is currently lay at my feet and probably wont wake up for me to take her pic will have to try get one tomorrow when she is more active lol!
She lets us groom her regularly so we comb her and she has a bath only when she gets really really dirty and smelly! She is great at keeping herself clean! Such a clean dog!
Someone on here once wrote that when you feel a dog's rib cage it should feel like the ribs are covered with a blanket rather than a duvet! This has stuck with me! My Luna is 3 in April and is very small for a lab weighing 24kg - she has a thick blanket over her ribs and gets lots of comments about how fit and slim she looks!
Your Indi is an absolutely gorgeous colour and what a clever list of tricks she can do! From above photos I think she has a defined waist and to my eye she tucks up at the tummy from the side so I wouldn't worry too much about her!!! She looks to be of the bigger, heavier show-bred type of labs who can be this weight without being overweight.
I would say that Luna started to gain weight at about 9months and it was switching her to less adult food that took off the extra kilos. She had still been on puppy food. Think if I had switched Luna at about 6months old onto adult food she would have been ok. She just didn't need the extra energy in the puppy food any longer. It could be worth thinking about switching Indi onto adult food soon.
Oh and welcome to LF! You only have 1 free post left so think we'll have to suggest you subscribe so we can enjoy more Indi pics!!
Hi and welcome to LF.
You have an amazingly gorgeous pup there.
She looks so healthy, i am certainly not an expert infact i haven't even got my L plates yet, but she looks just how they should i think.
She is more the show lab a bit stockier and broader than working lines but gorgeous.
You will get so many tips and advice on here so it would be a good idea to subscribe.
Wish you well and look forward to hearing more about Indi and her tricks
take care

Indie is just scrummy...... Bailey, also a chocolate lab, is show bred and stocky in build too, he looks similar so I think she is fine. He is 9 months old too and weighed in at 34 kg at last weigh in about six weeks ago!! Lord knows what he weighs now!!
