Just got Dudley's renewal through from M&S - gone up from £29 a month to £41 a month!!!

I did ring to ask them why.

Me - please can you tell me why the insurance has gone up so much?
M&S - it's because vet's fees have gone up
Me - but I haven't made a claim this year
M&S - I know but fees have still gone up and it's also because of his age
Me - but he's only 2
M&S - yes I know but he will be 3 this year!!!!

I looked at changing him to John Lewis who are half the price for better insurance but can't change because when Duds was a pup, a staffie bowled him over and hurt his elbow (visit on vet's records) and a few weeks ago when he slipped playing with a boxer he hurt his hock (on vet's records). I've just checked John Lewis policy and it says that any illness at any time in the future after an injury will not be covered, and as so many claims for labs are for leg problems, I can't take the risk that they will say it stems from his injury

Arghhhh looks like they have me over a barrel

It seems all types of insurance are going through the roof now, I had my renewal for the car through in december (hadn`t bothered cancelling as I was driving a friends car) and it had gone up by more than 50%!, with no claims made in the time I had it.

These people are going to price temselves out of the market if they carry on like this, I can`t see where they get their figures from, also what had Duds age got to do with it, I thought it was they got to senior 7 and above they start putting it up.

I still think the best is to put the amount of money you should pay to the insurrance on a special account each month and use it when the dog needs it!

That's a big increase I feel for you Sad . Ours is due for renewal in March so I'm probably awaiting the same. I would love to think I could put the money away instead but I worry I'd use it Embarassed .

Just bought our pet insurance and am already dreading the increase in a years time.

They shouldn't be able to get away with such price hikes since they're not in line with inflation, esp. if you haven't made a claim.

Just a thought but do you have life time cover with M & S thay may well not cover those injuries either.

I'm in the save the premium camp, and have been for years. I usually insure for the first year, by which time I hope any long term problems would have shown themselves. With 4 dogs it would cost me a small fortune each month!

Maria - do you put aside what the premiums would work out to be or more to cover yourself?

Wow thats a huge increase.

Alfie;s insurance isn;t being renewed this year he's 2 this year and i have never claimed his insurance. He;s been at the vets once for a sore ear and they did nothing anyway.

I have a fair bit saved up in the credit union which would cover an unexpected vet bill, if it didn;t i could get a loan from them based on my balance.

I can't afford to be paying out that premium now that hubby has been made redundant and i am student.
