Hello folks :O)

I have taken my time deciding when to get a dog, (many years waiting for "the right" time) but there was never a question of what kind :O). I grew up with a beautiful black lab named Brandy and she was my very best friend.

Now I have a dilemma that I hope someone will help with. I always wanted a yellow lab, girl, named Charlie lol yup all picked out right? Wrong! I babysat friends German Sheppard for a few weeks and I discovered blond hair! We have 2 cats, mother and daughter who are black tuxedo cats and I rarely find fur (we won’t talk about the white bathroom floor or the dust bunnies that seem to congregate in my computer room).

Now I know well that there is a difference between labs and Sheppard’s but will I find it the same? Difficult to get out of carpet (still picking it out of my car upholstery on the roof!! a month later!!) My Brandy loved to be brushed (the Sheppard cried like I was beating her with a rubber hose lol her daddy never brings out the bad ole brush) especially when she shed a few times a year. You know that period where you wake up one morning and find that you went to bed with a black lab and woke up with a grey dog that’s moulting in great tufts? lol Do yellows do the same?

If you can give me some advice on this fur business I would be much obliged :O)

Thanks!!

Sassenach the Canuk

All the colours moult like Billy-O. Yes the yellow hair show up more if you wear dark clothes, have dark furniture, flooring, etc, but believe me, your house will be just as hairy if you have a black Wink .

As someone once said about choosing the colour of Labs to own, "It depends whether you want black hairs in your butter, or yellow hairs in your jam" Wink .

Of course, if you really don't want hairs everywhere, you could always get a Poodle Wink .

Maxs black hair really show on my beige carpet - but then when my mum's Golden retriver comes round my black trousers are always covered in blonde hairs. As bad as each other !!! Wink

My SIL had a gorgous black lab now sadly gone but when ever I wore light clothing and she was moulting I would be covered in black fur Very Happy

I got Dylan - yellow - to match my wooden floors - cunning plan which works well BUT I forgot I wear a lot of black and spend a lot of my time doing a very good impression of a yellow lab Laughing

Personally i would just go and view a few litters and see what colour your most favoured breeder has, although for me it would have to be black or choccy, as my kids school uniform is navy Very Happy

I prefer the yellow hair - my ex had a black Lab and it was like someone had just shaved their legs all around the house Laughing

Lab hair tends to stick into things like needles but if you have a good vaccum with a turbine head that makes hoovering up easier. I have a Dyson Animal (the stowaway version) and I would say a Dyson is essential if you have a Lab Smile
