A very nice person recently lent me a couple of DVD's which I have been watching over the last few days. Last night was the turn of the 1991 IGL Retriever Championship, which many of you will know was won by Pocklea Remus. But the interest for me was in another dog, Lamberkine Moss!
What first brought him to my attention was Martin Deeley's comments about him being a big dog. That set me firing up my database to see how he was bred. The dog side is as you would expect, solid working right from Moss's sire, Millbuies Dust Lad, although even Dust Lad toys with dual purpose with Lawnwoods Pirate and his great great grandsire
But it was the bitch side which really interested me. The dam was Corterroyal Ceilidh, who was in fact line bred to Sandylands Charlie Boy. Ceilidh's sire was Oakrowan Clansman and his sire was Heatherbourne Silver Czar. Czar was by Sandylands Charlie Boy out of Heatherbourne Harefield Silver Penny. Silver Penny was by none other than the dog you have heard me talk about so many times, the wonderful Moo, Mrs Kneller's Ch Candlemas Rookwood Silver Moonlight!
Ceilidh bitch line is also show, again going back to Charlie Boy through Longley Count On on one side and solid Reanacre on the other!
That's so John. Also Candlemas Rookwood Silver Moonlight was the grand sire of my Mandy, and Heatherbourne Harefield Silver Penny was great grand dam to "Big Bad Beth" And believe me, both of those had brain, even if Beth did use it to her own advantage! Mandy was my obedience dog and Beth used to help me take a gundog class for the Flatcoats.
...Can I stick my neck out and say from this camp I'd consider that a real dual purpose pedigree as opposed to a real dual purpose DOG, as he was never shown But I'm picky and pedantic of course on that issue
Thanks for sharing though John, I'd heard whispers about his 'dark side' .

To me this is from the time where some were still breeding labradors - not show labs nor working labs but labradors pure and simple! a good sized, good looking dog which could clearly do many days out working on a shoot. Our obsession with showing and trialling changed our breed and split it into two (general speaking) - kind of sad, really

I think, sadly the split had taken hold a long time before 1991 Natasha don't you think? Even when my parents were breeding in the 70's and 80's it was very defined already. Come the middle 90's, personally I'd say I think things were just starting to turn around a little again for the better, and nowadays there is a big improvement...? But that may be just me? ;-(
Would love to see a pic of this dog is anyone has one...?

John my childhood dog was Candlemas Silver Sand? anything on your database about him?
Sorry Jacky. Moo was I think bred by Mrs Saffell (Rookwood) and brought by Mrs Kneller (Candlemas). Silver Sand was obviously bred by Mrs Kneller, and with Silver in the name I cant help wondering if Moo was involved there.
