It could be that he is just going to be a big boy.
When you look at him, has he got a waist or is he sort of square? Run your hands over him, you should be able to feel his ribs without poking him, but not see them.
If he's square and you can't feel his ribs then he's a bit fat, if not he's fine
My vet says that all dogs should have waists. If you just see/feel one rib, then their ok, 2 ribs and they are too skinny and no ribs slightly visible means they could loose a couple of pounds.
My youngest Troy is 9 months and weighs about 35 kilos. He is also quite stocky and vet says he is OK.
every dog is different so it's impossible to tell from weight alone, if he has a definate waist and you can feel his ribs he is probably ok at 7 months he should be having 30 to 40 minutes of exercise a day (please correct me if I'm wrong) or you risk damaging the hips. So ensuring he is on a well balanced diet is the other way of helping him stay in tip top condition, there are other members that are more expert than me about that. Vets generally aren't very helpful regarding nutrition but most surgeries will let you pop in and weigh your dog for free and vet nurses are usually willing to tell you their opinion on weight loss needed. There may be nothing wrong in which case you dont need to use much of what ive just said.

Hiya.. after meeting Harvey the other week, there's no way on earth i'd say he was fat!!! he looked quite stream-lined if you ask me. He is a big boy though, height wise, amber's the same age and is 16kg LOL!!!
Having met Harvey at Dovedale last week, he didn't look fat to me.
We weighed Charlie the other day and he is 23kg and 6 months next week. Harvey is taller than Charlie and didn't look as 'chubby'.
We are just changing Charlie onto adult food and are hoping he slims a little although we can still feel his ribs. Charlie seemed much stockier across his chest than Harvey - guess they're all different.
Ruby weighs 16kg and is 7 months next week and 20 inches tall but she is very lean still. I go by the feel but cant see rib method too - some are just bigger than others I guess like us
I spoke to my vet over my concerns over Doobie's weight. He is about 34kg, and she says he is fine! You can feel his ribs ok - he is just quite a tall Lab!
he isn't square, he has got a waist and when you stroke his side you can just about feel his ribs
he does have good exercise, 1 short walk in the morning then a bigger one in the afternoon/evening
we do control his food, he is on adult food now,and the amont of treats although he does get spoilt now and then
may be its just me worring about nothing, when we first had him people said he was going to be big because he had giant paws, but he just looks too big, especially compared to 8 week old murphy
We kept being told that Fudge was going to be big because of the size of her paws, but she's not she was weighed 3weeks ago at 8 1/2 months she was 23kg and our vet said she was just fine. We have her weighed on a monthly basis when we worm her and the vet always records her weight in her notes. We don't make an appointment we just pop in and this is fine.
