I'm really struggling at 6.00am on these pitch black mornings to see where the dogs are and what they are getting up to, at the moment i have been using those clip on flashing lights but I cannot always see them when the dog isn't facing me. Has anyone found anything really bright? I'm thinking of those tube lights, don't particularly like flashing collars as none i've tried lasted that long especially after getting wet..
I can just about make out Lester when he's close to, but Lincoln is the proverbial NIGHTmare..am thinking of fitting a cow bell to him Rolling Eyes

any suggestions and links welcome! Smile

I to was struggling with the 6am walk so i bought a couple of polybrite collars.
I got them here for 1p plus p&p so about £5

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Fire-Hydrants-Illuminated-Collar/dp/B000E1U9I8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1288029843&sr=1-3

We have tried the ones in PAH but the plastic on them is brittle and they seem to be quite dim. These are material, have reflective stitching and seem really good. I've been using mine about 5 weeks now and can see the dogs from any angle.

I've got a green shamrock version of the polybrite collar above. They have small and large on ebay for 99p + postage but sadly no medium. Heavier built labs would probably need a large.

You can set them on constant light or flashing and they can be seen from quite a distance. Mine has done 2 years on one battery and still seems to be ok (fingers crossed).

I can recommend the above collar. Bought it a few weeks back for Luna along with a flashy tag. The flashy tag dnagles down the front so I can see her when she's facing me. The collar has 2 different flashing speeds or a constant and sits facing her back so that I can see her moving away from me.

I confidently let Luna off in the fields again at 6am after getting this collar.

I have the pink/red version of this and have been very pleased with it so far. I have it on constant (rather than flashing) and it is very bright - I can see Poppy from quite some distance in the dark. No idea what the battery life is like though. We have the medium size and i had to adjust it to quite small so I would imagine you'd have to have a pretty chunky lab to need large.

Hi Roz

I asked this a couple of weeks ago and got some really useful replies.
Thought this may help you
http://www.labradorforums.co.uk/ftopict-80056-.html

I bought a flashing collar in the end made by Canac. Just in time by all accounts. My local vet is trying to get stock and they can't get any at the moment. Everyone who sees Lottie in hers has been ringing them up for one!

Edited to say that the one I have bought is a supplementary collar and is adjustable on velcro. She also wears her normal collar and lead.

Kate: Love the picture of Diesel with his eyes closed! Laughing Looks like he's saying 'If I close my eyes, I'll be invisible!!'

Mackie has numerous flashy collars - the one from PAH that Laura posted about has never been the same since Mackie was 'testing' it to see if I could still see him if he hid underwater Rolling Eyes Laughing

He's got a reflective coat that used to light up as well, but ditto the submarine testing above Rolling Eyes (is this just my dog?) It still works if you shine a light across a field though, and I tend to clip a flashy light to his collar too.

When I bought Mackie's, this model had flashy lights down the sides too, but they weren't robust so the newer models are just reflective. Also waterproof, so makes drying him off quite a lot easier!

Berry keeps managing to undo her high-vis jacket, crafty bugger, she hates it haha.

The flashing collar is working well for me but we havent been out in bad rain yet, although when we do i plan to put a sandwich bad over it so I can still see the flashing but its waterproofed Smile

I dont think I'll let her off when it's pitch black though, like it will be until 8ish quite soon. I'm concerned for my own safety if she isnt close by, if someones watching me they might be waiting until she totters off for a sniff...yes I am para!
