CH - Champion, this is a dog that won at championship shows(3 times under different jusdges) and gone on to attain it working certificate as well, breeders can explain it better than I can.

SH CH - Show Champion, a dog as above who`s won 3 times at championship level shows.

FT CH - Field Trial Champion, a dog who has won 3 (I believe) field trials.

CJ has KMM way way back in his pedigree, one of the few good dogs he does have among mainly pets Very Happy

No to rain on any parade or anything but CH Kupros MM is one of the most common dogs to appear in modern pedigrees for showbred labradors around the world. Its rare for a chocolate or black carrying chocolate NOT to have him in, often multiple times.

Just to clarify although Mary did a smashing job,

a SH CH is a dog who has gained its title in the showring
a CH is a dog who has gained its title in the showring AND gained its Show Gundog Working Certificate. A pass/fail test of basic working ability to show the dog still has the basics of what it needs to be a useful shooting companion and have typical qualities of the function of its breed.

I suppose there are usually between about 8 and 15 dogs made up to SH CH during a year in the UK (a small amount when you consider there are near enough 50,000 labrador puppies bred and registered in any one year these days). There are usually one, sometimes two or three only a YEAR who make up to CH. So you can see how special these dogs are.

Di

Tess has Kupros MM as a great great grand sire on her mother's side. But I guess from Di's post this is to be expected as she is show line.

Tibea Tosh is Maples GGG Grandfather on her mothers side.

I dont know very much about him, other than that he was a FT CH and was very prolific, and I have a picture.

diana was right. he did get about a bit.
if you google him you will see why,he was the david beckham of the labrador world.
i lost paddy 4 weeks ago. he was the most fabulous friendly and handsome dog, he was my best friend. so i thank kupros m m for his genes.

Just to put my two-penneth worth in, and to add to to Mary and Di's already detailed clarification, a Field Trial Champion has to have beaten 34 or so other Open dogs.

This can happen in three ways -
1. By winning a 24 dog (2 Day) Open, and a 12 dog (1 day) Open
2. By winning 3 12 dog (1 Day) Opens
3. By winning 2 or more 24 dog (2 day) Opens.

Something that is also often overlooked is that before a dog can be given their title it must have a 'Water & Drive' Certificate. Basically this is signed by two A Panel judges at a trial, and confirms that the dog has been tested in line at a drive and has been quiet and steady, and has entered water freely when asked so to do. It is not necessary for the dog to actually retrieve anything from the water.

Of course, the dog must have won a Novice trial first off, before it can qualify to run in Open.

As Di would say - " Simples". Confused
