For the 6wks that my pup was limping and the vet was giving us nothing i was giving my dog devils claw. I didn't see any ill effects and he seemed in more pain once on metacam. I asked at 3 different vets about devils claw and they all looked at me like i was asking a crazy question and said they had never heard of it or mumbled about proof.
My question is - Is it ok to give him devils claw? He weighs 36kg so how much can i give him? Can he have it at the same time as metacam? Is there anything to help with his cartiledge(his was completly gone in right elbow) and his osteo arthritis you can suggest?
I currently give him 30ml metacam and 20ml cod liver oil a day. He gets daily massage as well.
Thanks.

Our lovely 6 and a half year old lab Vanilla has been diagnosed with Lymphoma, we only found out as he had diarrhea and the treatment he was getting wasn't improving it so we had an xray done and when this didn't show anything we had an ultrasound done. We have him fully insured and are going down the chemo therapy route. He is on vincristine once a week administered by the vet and 1 x cyclophosphamide (50g) and 3 x prednisilone (5mg) every 48hrs. He is also on zantac and antepsin to help protect his stomach what with still having a bacterial infection. All of first three drugs have a side affect of diarrhea and so he hasn't improved any on this front. The following [url]http://www.caninecancer.com/nutrition.html recomends several supplements and I'm specifically interested in those to try and help the diarrhea ie L-Glutamine. My vet has said to try and find out more, but it's knowing who and where to go so I'm hoping you might be able to help. I just want to make sure we give him the best possible quality of life and easing the diarrhea I'm sure will help.

Its a shame but Sam04 seems to have left the building. Not been on the thread since November 2010. Mayeb there is another holistic vet that could contribute?

This is the link that I always give anyone asking for a homeopathic vet:

http://www.bahvs.com/findavet.htm

As I understand it Sam04 is not actually a vet but I'm not sure whether Nat (Littlelab) on here may still have some contact with her.

I was going to post with the link to the BAHVS website - but see that Jill has already done so.

We are currently with an holistic vet (she is listed on the above-mentioned BAHVS site) who has a particular interest in holistic treatment of cancer, and the quality of life of animals affected by cancer. This is a link to an article she had published on the use of homeopathy in cancer
http://www.integratedvetcentre.co.uk/Articles/HomeopathyInPractice.pdf

This particular vet is situated in Yorkshire - I don't know if that would be within a reasonable travelling distance for you? If not, then I hope that you will be able to find another vet on the list that may be able to help Vanilla.

Hugs to you and to Vanilla.

xx

This is a reply from Sam

The diarrhea is the dog's way of getting rid of the toxic effects of all the treatments or toxins from the Lymphoma itself, or that's what we find in dogs with any type of cancer and in humans. What's the specific name of the bacterial infection? I'll get back to you on the supplements.
