Hi

Just wondered if anyone coul shed some light, Majic is 9 nearly 10 months old and weighs 24kg, weighed her today she has only put on a gram since last week and the week before.

Does thier weight slow down at all at this age as I have found that her weight increase has slowed down, she is on 12ozs Burns split into 2 meals but if I give her anymore she starts with quite bad dandruff which seems to have got worse with her first moult, considered adding Chappie to her food (was going to be Naturediet but it is like gold dust) but she can't have it as it contains chicken and she is intollerant to chicken, she does have a fast metabolism and is working line shape she will have a poo 3-4 times a day non runny all solid, she also has Burns aqua snack treats for training and a Burns chewitz chew at night.

Is this norm at this age does the weight gain slow or should I be rethinking diet?

Hi Carroll, Mojo's growth rate slowed right down at this age, infact I had thought she had finished growing and I was going to get left with a dwarf Lab. Rolling Eyes .

She did however just grow really slowly until she was about 16 months and then she weighed 26.5kgs and was 21 1/2 " high.

She's a bit too heavy at the mo (28.5kgs) and is on a diet (like her Mum Rolling Eyes ). She was always more working dog shaped too, although now her Show daddy's shape has turned up on her waistline Rolling Eyes .

I wouldn't worry and carry on with what you are doing. Just keep an eye on her in the next couple of months.

Jules.

Dexter's growth slowed right down around that age too, in fact he lost weight, seemed to lose his 'puppy fat', and hasn't really gained too much since that age.. couple of kgs maybe Laughing

Thanks

I can stop worrying now phew!!!! Very Happy

Majic was 21" in height at 6 months old so she probably hasn't got anymore upward growing to do and as she looks like she is taking her dads genes which are from working she probably only has about another couple of kg's to put on.

I was going to post a similar thread Carroll!!!

Joey is just 8 months now and also on Burns, and in the last 4 weeks he has only gained 2kg. (He weighs 21.8kg)

He isn't ribby or skinny, he just seems to have stopped growing!!! I think he might be a mini-lab!!!

Ruby has gained 0.5kg a week since the week we got her except the week she was ill and stayed the same - she is 16kg @ nearly 7 months. She is 19inches to withers though and breed standard is 21 minimum I think for bitches and I didnt thin she would get anywhere near that. Its good to know that she will stop gaining weight though as knowing me I would have a panic in a few months Embarassed

I have noticed ruby getting a LOT more muscular in her chest and thigh area and her head appears 'stronger' so she barely looks like a puppy anymore.

How tall is Joey nic?

Yes, quite often they do tend to do the bulk of their growing in the first 6 months and slow down from there. They usually continue growing for another 6-12 months but admittedly a lot slower. This, of course, depends on the individual dog. Many dogs also continue to bulk out after 18 months.

This happened to Joey at about 6 months Vicky. He was the same with his weight gain up until 6 months and now its slowed right down.

Not sure how tall he is - I'll have to measure him again!

Majic's weight gain has slowed down over the last 2 weeks so I guess she is just going to slowly bulk out as she is very lean, not skinny or as Nic said ribby but definately lean but she never stops. Shocked

She will only have a good sleep at night and if she has had a good off lead run so I think her sleep pattern is also changing. Smile

Just to let you know that you can order Naturediet direct (http://www.naturediet.net/). I found this a much cheaper and easier way of buying it. The company is extremely helpful and we've been using various versions of Naturediet for years. I think you can also order over the phone.

Burns also deliver. These two are the best types of food that I have found for our Labradors. Of course, everyone has their preference

Hope this helps and good luck.
