Just catching up with some of the posts, better late than never
My lot are fed raw, But before I went Barfing mad, I fed Autarky
Hi Kay,
Been looking through for someone who feeds BARF diet. I am very interested in this and have done lots of reading on the net etc.
The thing that worries me is giving the right amounts of everything, so I wondered if you would be willing to tell me what and how much of each type of meat, bones etc. you would feed an 18 week old Lab? Do you feed veg? It seems some do, some don't! Do you give any supplements? Again it seems to cause a difference of opinion.
WE change dHolly over to Autarky..some problems at first..think perhaps we changed it too quick or she ate something she shouldnt have from the garden..then just as we thought we were getting back to normal Holly given a Pedigree SUpachew by someone else..poorly tum again. So gradually reintroducing Autarky after rice chicken again etc. It is slow going as we want to make sure it is not Autarky giving her a dodgy tum. But this time so far so good so fingers crossed
On all other fronts it is great...she loves it....her coat is so shiny....and she does seem a bit less manic than she was..LOL ..though still definitely a mad puppy!
Cant give it a 100% thumbs up yet untill she is fully back on it and still no runny poos but ill keep you posted!
adults are on Dr Johns gold and silver, but ty is on a Chudleys working and does better on that then any other, older pups (one 7 months and the other 5 months) are on Chudleys puppy, and pups (5 weeks) are on Beta Puppy

Glad to hear that Holly is feeling better now - please keep me posted on how the Autarky goes - Smudge is on James Wellbeloved which suits him fine but Autarky is more readily available in this area and it helps that supermarkets sell it too!
We used to have Smudge on Bakers and were advised to change it due to his 'hyperness' (if that's a word! lol!). It did help to change him from it, though he still has his mad moments! It's amazing what an effect their food can have. I mean, Bakers is available everywhere but like everything, I guess it affects different dogs in different ways.
Take care and hope Autarky continues to work well for you.
harvey is on royal cannine maxi junior he has 375 g a day split over 3 meals ( yes he is still on 3 meals, any ones view on that )
he also has a couple of spoon fuls of chappie thrown in to mix it up a bit and he loves it . he has a carrot a day and one dental chew for his teeth and a couple of treats here and there
yes he is still on 3 meals, any ones view on that )
Hi Gary - purely a personal thing, in my view. Shadow changed to 2 meals at approx 9 months, but only because he started picking at his lunch time feed - and it also was more convenient for me, as it turned out!

we feed maddie burns diet. She's 7 months old but she's on adult food as they've advised us to because of her activity levels. Her coat is glossy and she's really lean and well defined. Seems quite reasonable cost wise too. Lots of advice from them and its delivered free of charge to your door from the website. Cant complain!!!
Just thought id do a quick update from previous post on how Holly getting on with Autarky. The result is good. She is on it fully now and doing really well. Her tummy has settled well, although i think it will always be a bit sensitive (at least at the mo) to chews and the like, as we do have the odd soft one (sorry) but i dont think the Autarky is to blame. I think these coincide with a different training treat etc. so im going to try sticking to using her food and maybe chicken or cheese as special training treats
Might give liver cake a try - read the recipe on here somewhere.. although as a veggie i might be calling on hubbys culinary skills for this!!
Anyway the verdict so far on Autarky is a definite thumbs up... but soon we will have to start thinking about changing to adult version. Im sure theres a thread or two about that LOL
Best wishes
Shelley
