Hi im new to this and I need abit of help I have been feeding my pup on bakers puppy food but my vet said this food is no good and advised me to get beta but I would like to know if there is any other food that is more easily avalible i.e pedigree, wagg, iams etc
I think you'll find most people on here will agree with your vet - Bakers is kind of like feeding your kid junk food (lots of additives, sugar & fat)....
There'll be more people along soon with helpful advice, I'm sure.
Mackie is on Wagg - it suits him so I don't want to change it, but it's not the best quality food - poeple will have other suggestions.
Best thing I can say is change the food over slowly (over a week or two) so Lola gets used to it. Could get an upset tummy otherwise.
there`s arden grange, burns, wainwrights, natures diet.....the list of good food is endless. i agree bakers is the worst food, pedigree and iams are just as bad (i once stupidly gave my old girl a tin of pedigree and woke up the next day to a landmine in the hall and had to tip toe around all the poops to get to the toilet.....not good!!)
wagg is ok, it`s not the best food but it`s not the worst by far. i`ve always used either wagg or chappie and never had a problem with them in fact i`ve had more problems with the higher quality food as my other dogs seemed to have sensitive tums so these 2 worked best for me
Hi, I wouldn't feed any of the foods you can buy in the supermarket, foods I would look at would be Arden Grange, Fish4dogs, Burns, James Wellbeloved, Skinners, Orijen, Naturediet. All good quality foods and I'm sure your pup would thrive on any of them although whichever one you choose its probably best to try a small bag first to make sure it suits his tummy.
I buy all my dog food online as you can usually pick it up at great prices plus its delivered to your door.
I use Beta ive never found a problem with the food or getting hold of any pets at home sell it, its £32 a bag and they often have it buy one get on half price. Coco was weaned on this and has never had a problem
I would suggest avoiding Pedigree - if you look at the ingredients you'll see 'meat derivatives' and this is not something you want to be feeding your dog.
I would also agree with your vet: Bakers is not a great food.
You might want instead to consider:
Wainwrights
Arden Grange
Skinners
Burns
Fish 4 Dogs
Nature Diet
It's very much trial and error. Wainwrights is a good basic one and as it's Pets At Home own brand the price is decent and it's easy to get hold of. Might be one to start with. I started Dex on that but he's now on Burns.
mine was on wainwrights puppy and did well on this but when I moved her to adult food I changed to skinners as I heard good things about it on here and it is very good value. I started off on the maintenance and have recently switched to the muesli as it looked more 'interesting' and mine has done well on both.
