Unless he has a skin complaint needing medicated shampoo, or he's rolled in fox poo, then never.
I think Ozzie has had maybe 4 baths in his life, all with a medicated shampoo coz he had a bit of dandruff when he was about 6 months old.
Vegas has had 1 bath due to rolling in fox poo. Bath consisted of half a bottle of ketchup being liberally applied, lathering it in, leaving it 10 mins, then rinsing it off with a little shampoo.
I don't routinely bathe mine, they swim enough to keep them clean!
I was going to say the same as Ness. Mine only get a bath if they have covered themselves in Stink, other than that an occasional swim or a walk in the rain freshens up their coats.
Labs have Self Cleaning coats and bathing them removes the protective natural oils, so baths are best kept for emergencies only.
I do bath Sam, he's had a few and is 10 months old, I only do it if he's so muddy I wouldn't let him in the house otherwise, he's been ill so needs washing or is itchy because for a while it seems to help.
A friend of a friend baths hers every week and both of hers are 10yrs+ now and LOVE their baths, no harm has ever come to them but then they don't live outside or work I think it might not be such a good idea if they needed that protective coating.
If Dexter doesn't like baths have you tried showering him either in the shower/bath or with a hose or fill a baby bath with the water and tip jugfuls over him Sam thinks that's funny, in the summer him and our little relatives all get drenched in that 'game'. Warm water not cold. Everything gets mighty soggy but who cares!
Jazz has only ever had one bath: in the middle of the night after my darling daughter puked all over her- sweet and sour chicken washed down with copious quantities of vodka. It was vile, but Jazz jumped off Sarah's bed and was wagging it everywhere and leaning against everything trying to lick it off.. I was furious, so put the dog in the bath and shampooed her, rinsed it off and went back to bed, leaving daughter to clean up her own mess. (If she was old enough to get in such a state, I reckon she was old enough to clear up her mess.)
Inca never got a bath until she was 1 year old, but she was absolutely STINKING and the river through the village obviously wasn't doing her any good so she'll be getting one every few months due to how dirty our river is... she's getting one before I go back to school.
My last lab had 2 baths..her breeder bathed before i picked her up and i bothed her once after a really bad season that she had, other than that it was a hose down if she was really bad.
Alfie...the poor boy got a quick bath when i brought him home...and he's never been bathed since.
