Hi All

Im a bit shook up and confuddled.

My 18 month old Zak, bite me this morning and i have no idea why? He has never done it before, he was really nasty, growling, showing his teeth then when i went to reach for his collar he bite me quite agressively.

he wouldnt go out for a walk, which isnt like him, it was raining which he isnt keen on my it was walkies he loves them and when i bent down to get hold of him he did that.

Any ideas? hes treated like a king, and never hit or anything so im quite upset that hes turned on me like this.

Chrissi x

I would instantly wonder if he is in pain. If you can, pop a muzzle on him, home made if necessary, and give him a gentle check over all over. If you cant find anything obvious, get a vet to check him.

There could be a number of causes but my first thought would always be pain.

Poor you, very nervewracking though.

Hope Zak is ok

Katy

no expert, and i suspect others will have more experienced views/opinions..
has he managed to hurt himself overnight? going on my own 'limited' experience, I've only seen a normally calm dog growl/bite when in pain (or in fear)..

Could he be in pain somewhere ?

I would have thought a sudden change of behaviour like that must be explained by not feeling well/in pain.

Hope you can get to the bottom of this.

Chloe

Pain might also tie in with not wanting to go for a walk

I'd defo be asking the vet to check him over with a sudden change in behaviour.

Has he broken the skin?

I've seen a few dogs recently who have got upset and grumpy because they are in pain. These have been normally friendly/placid dogs. I would get Zak checked by a vet.

I would definitely get him checked over - just to be on the safe side.

Last year Monty had a sudden bout of aggression. I was devastated and couldn't understand what was going on. The holistic vet gave him a homeopatic remedy which was very successful in calming him down quickly, while going on to run blood tests. These showed he has had pancreatitis and was probably in a lot of pain.

Hopefully there's nothing like this with Zak - but if this is totally out of character for him, perhaps you need to rule out any possible physical cause.

Let us know how things go. I know it can be very distressing to see your loving happy dog act totally out of character like this.

Hugs

vet seems a good idea, i am going sat morn for kennel cough anyway ill get him to check over.

i dont think he has hurt himself in the night, we slept next to me on the bed all night, naughtee i know but hes so warm and cuddly.

ill see what hes like when i get home, hes at home all day with mum today so i get her to keep an eye on his behaviour, hes normally so loving and this turn in behaviour is weird and totally shocked me and mum, he was trying to run away from me and got on mums bed and tried to hide.

yesterday he bit my leg but we were playing and he bit quite hard which he has never done before, i doubt its connected.
