Oh! that must have been very scary
I dont need to use a halti any more with mine but I was advised to do the same as in Laura's post just in case of the quick release opening unexpected & to give better control only when needed with the halti.
you must have been quite proud of his recall though
Again no trouble here with the halti lead - Barney has been using it for over 3 years.
Whilst I am not at all suggesting that this was the cause of the problems experienced, this post has made me realise that Barney's lead is such an everyday object I take it for granted. I am going to try and remember to examine it each time before I put it on him, to make sure there is no wear and tear.
It may well be worth writing to Halti about the problems.
Any lead can develop problems. I had the spring clip go a while back on one that I had been using for several years. Fortunately, it was whilst still at home and getting ready to go out for walkies. I keep spares now, and inspect occasionally.
I also find that spraying with WD40 from time to time seems to help keep them running easily.
I've had the same halti leads for about 5yrs now without any problems. I would certainly write and let them know of your experience as it seems it may have been a faulty one!
Well done to the little man for recalling - bet that was such a relief!!
I've gone back to using my halti training lead because it is so much more comfortable to use than the thinner ones.
I only ever had a problem when using it with a harness and that was when the spring clip got wedged in the harness D ring and unclipped itself if in the wrong position.
You do have to be careful about the extra D rings and the 2nd clip if you have a dog that tends to lunge and pull.
