I have just had Dee's renewal letter from M&S. The premium has GONE UP BY £157 from last year (she's 5 years old with NO claim history!!!)
How does that work?!?!

Once past puppy stage, as they get older, the likelihood increases that there will be a claim - hence premiums start to rise.
Also, in part I suspect thanks to LF - there are probably a disproportionate number of labs insured by M&S (they used to have a zero excess policy) - and therefore more claims from Lab owners.
Hally had a claim from an injury and her's doubled - in part due to her age - will be interesting to see what next years premium is - but I suspect it will mean cancelling any insurance cover for her
If you've never had a claim, why not have a shop around to see what other companies are offering.

I'm just in the process of making my first claim, so I'll be interested to see what happens after this.
Because Dee has recently had an operation I'll probably just renew this year until I'm sure we're out of the woods on THIS 'condition' as obviously with another insurance company it will be classed as 'pre-existing'

They lady did say on the phone when I questioned the increase they had had a rise in breed claims, but also said they don't penalise claimers and reward non-claimers in the same way as eg house insurers do (it'll be interesting to see if that's true!) but I was suprised that they also said they consider her to be 'getting on' at 5!!
Her insurance in April 2006 as a pup was £120 and has risen to £480!
The 7000 insurance with PDSA works out about £297 but haven't checked all the small print, so yes I think it's worth shopping around sometime in the future (I should probably have done it before the current claim too)
Sorry if this is abit off the original post
Nicola
zak his insured with the PDSA, i have claimed twice, and their service has been brilliant, they paid promptly. So from experience i can recommend them on price and service.
