Hello...

Choosing an insurance company for the as yet unnamed puppy is proving very difficult! They're all soooo much more expensive than a year ago when I got Melvin's. PDSA are coming up best price, their 7000 policy. Anyone with them?

Thanks Smile

Hi, i cant help sorry

But i have just had a quote for Buddys insurance at £14.50 for the PDSA 7000 policy.

So i'd love to hear peoples thoughts on this policy.

Am i right in looking for 'per condition' on a 'lifelong' policy?
and NOT per year?

Thanks

Hi Clare & Co,

Are there any particular policies you're looking at? ie. lifetime cover?
Our site may be able to help you compare all the features, and find more insurers to get quotes from...

Hope that helps,
Greg

Hi Emma,

Yes, Per Year + Per Condition - means it will pay out that amount for each condition, per year, rather than simply Per Year - which just pays out that amount for ALL conditions in the year.

Wow that seems quite high! We're looking at insurance at the moment as we want to swap Jake's and Bella's free period is ending soon.

Our quote with PDSA was £19 something, but AXA have just quoted us £13 for one and £14 for the other so we're considering swapping to that.

We are with PDSA and luckily never needed it so far Shocked but I was very happy with their terms of 'per condition' and have a £50 excess for under a £10 per month now. (Only insurance to go down that I have) Think ours is £5000 per condition per year, but can't remember

Unfortunately, the only real measure of how good an insurance company is, is when you need them - competitive pricing is one thing, but will they pay out when the chips are down, and for large sums, will they pay the vets directly?

Mine are with More Than and M&S - and I've had claims for both Clover and Hally with them - M&S paid up within about a fortnight with Hally, and More Than pay the clinic within about a week of them sending the claim - as it is physio / alternate therapries, they tend to submit the claims in small chunks.

If you are considering either of these - then make sure you read the small print as with More Than - you do have to pay 10% of each bill over and above the excess - nevertheless - they have saved me around £3K I would have to find if there had been an issue - and the premium only rose by £2 in the following year - and Clover is 5 now - so all in all, one I still consder reasonable value for money.

Off to have a look at the PDSA one as renewals are starting to come in soon - but I would definitely try and find someone who has claimed from them - because the fact remains, however good policy cover and wording, the proof is in the pudding - and if they don't pay out when you need it - then it's too late.

PS - Clare - WHAT new Pup - LMAO Laughing (or can I take a guess Wink )

ETA - if you are going along the lines I am guessing - then check any policies to ensure that they cover dogs used for breeding - some insurers (Sainsburys immediately springs to mind) - certainly wouldn't used to cover dogs used for breeding - whereas More Than and M&S simply exclude any claim arising from breeding / anything associated with breeding.
