Thanks all.

Yes I'm pestering them alright. I've kept every receipt for every bill totalling approx £8800, we've received approx £2600 off them to date.

I've got a written record of every thing we've paid, when we paid it, what it was for, which vet practice it was with and the date we handed in the claim forms.

I've sent a copy of this with my letter of complaint.

It's terrible to think that in our time of need people still want to rip you off.

We're kind of stuck with E and L now though, as nobody else would want to insure Bailey with his condition.

Hi guys.I have just been reading all these posts and I am wondering..Do most of you have to pay outright for your labs treatment as I am with Petplan as well and although I have had no need to claim as yet when I had my last lab the vet sent the claim direct to Pet Plan and they sent the cheque to him and I only had to pay excess and then Pet Plan sent me a breakdown of the amount sent to vet.

Does it really depend on your vet practice whether or not you have to pay upfront or whether the insurance company settle with the vet?Sorry to hijack thread but I just wondered.

I think it depends on the vet and whether they have had a good experience with that particular company. My vet is happy to deal with Direct Line without me having to pay. I just settle up the excess when they have paid out.

The trouble with pet insurance is that once you've got a condition on your dog's records you are then excluded from all related conditions for evermore if you decide to go elsewhere. You have to consider really carefully if it is worth changing.

I'm stuck now with Direct Line, fortunately they have been very good so far but I am worried about increasing premiums in future years.

Our normal vet, the specialist and the hydrotherapy provider all asked us to pay direct. The hydrotherapy provider said that they had many problems with E and L and getting money from them before.

I didn't believe them at first, just thought they wanted the money from us because it would be a little quicker but now I know the truth...they'd still be waiting like we are.

I think it depends on your insurance company and the reputation they have. If only I'd looked into insurance companies before hand.

I hadn't hear of E and L until recently. It came up when asking the receptionist at our vet about which company they think is best. She said E & L is the one they really dread and they won't claim directly from them because of the long time they take to pay. People insured with them have to pay up front and then wait ages to get the money back. I don't think I could cope with that.

I guess, though, that you will want to stick with them because of Bailey's existing condition to get ongoing cover. Maybe you should try making a formal complaint to someone high up in the company. I really hope you manage to sort things out.

Norma

My vets are quite happy to allow the bills to be paid by the insurance companies I have, but they do tell you before treatment that if you are with certain (they do name them) ones then they will require you to pay for the treatment and claim it back afterwards.
