Just wanted to check though if anyone knows if there are any plans to ban this type of pistol too, as obviously I don't want to buy it and it then becomes illegal!
Sorry, can't help with which sort they're going to ban, but just to say you cannot use a starter pistol in a public place, only on private land. The only thing you can get away with using on public land is a dummy launcher - which you can still use for shot without firing a dummy (although I have to phone the police everytime I take it out and let them know where and when I will be using it)
Hi Nikki, I have just got one via the Gun Dog Club, it was about £39 including blanks and P&P, according to their website it is legal as it is coloured but you must have permission from the land owner to use it. Hope that helps a bit, Sue.
as a starter pistol and a launcher - without dummy - can.t fire a projectile, both are considered the same i believe. As long as you have a friendly farmer whose land to use on you should be fine. I can bring mine on sunday for you to look at if you like. I'll check tomorrow at work with my mate in the fire arms department

Normal Firearms regulations apply as long as its only used for sporting events and not to be carried in public.
It has to be kept in safe place and you don't need a firearms license, but you do to buy the ammunition for it

The 8 shot .22 revolver is fine. The new regulations apply to the older 5 shot larger revolver (I've a feeling it was .305) Either way, I've not seen any on sale for quite some time.
As long as it is the .22 (6mm) like Gundog Gear one you are fine and legal.
Regards, John
Edited to say, No Nat, you dont need a license to buy .22 or 6mm (the same thing) starting pistol ammunition.
The first one linked to is the standard revolver, used by many clubs and trainers. Until recently I had one, but it has now fallen to pieces. They are really fiddly things to use with short blanks (or is it just me!!? ).
I’ve replaced mine with the automatic type, in the second link and that is much better, especially if you buy a second magazine which can be loaded-up whilst the pistol is still able to fire. I can see why clubs don’t generally use them, because of the cost and the magazines would go missing, but it’s a much nicer thing to use in my opinion.
