I've got an appointment with the vet at 6.30 but Coco appears to have a thinning/bald patch at the top of her front leg. Because it is so patchy I know it isn't a scrape or scratch and I don't think she has been chewing it.

She's due for worming and flea treatment anyway so I can see this being an expensive visit - I usually get Frontline and Drontal online but if I may be given Advocate anyway I might as well get it tonight.

Any idea how long I will need to keep her away from other dogs?

Bum!

Hi, Berry has these too, it isnt Mange, you'd know if it was Mange. Is there are rash at all? Berry scratched herself rotten and has created a bald patch at the top of each front leg, I'm putting on E45 as the skin has now dried out, to encourage hairgrowth.

She has olive oil everyday as it is, but this is supposed to help as well. She started out with a few red blotches, caused by her scratching but now it's just clear skin with no hair.

Word of warning, my vet charged me £70 for steroid injections for her itching and 2 weeks later she was itching again. Its caused by messing in mucky water in her case so certainly not taking her the vets again, as it clears up on its own....just this time she's got ber baldy patches but it looks like the hair is starting to grown back already.

Dont pay the vet unless you absolutely have to...I went back the next week and they charged about £40 for another injection and it did bugger all!

Just got back. The vet doesn't think it is mange as she isn't really itchy. There is no rash or spots or any redness and it is one lone bald patch. It's a mystery! She thought it could be foliculitis (sp?) - inflamation of the hair folicles

We came home with some Fucidin gel (anti-fungal/steroid treatment) and a triple pack of Advocate as a precaution and because she was due for treatment anyway. She also had her anal glands emptied.

Total bill £56 of which £34 was for medicines (Advocate is £20 online) so I think it could have been worse. If she needs any further treatment it will be an insurance claim.

Hi,

eva had the same thing she had a bald patch on the top of her leg and around her eye, and there was no rash and didn't sratch it or anything, i took her to the vets and they just gave her advocate and he didn't do a skinscrapping.

anyway i took her to a different vets and she did a skin scrapping and found that she had demodectic mange...then i was given horrendous shampoo to put on eva and it cleared up the mange straight way.

hope this helps

love estelle and evaxx

She got another similar patch the following week on the other leg, both healed up no problem. At the moment she has a small bald patch on the inside of one of her back legs.

The vet suggested that it might have been due to trauma and I think this is most likely the cause. She has probably bumped herself and just licked and licked at the spot but it has dried by the time I have noticed it.

The earlier bald patches have both disappeared so I don't think it is anything to worry about.
