I hope your pup doesn't have kennel cough, but please reconsider taking her out and about until you know for sure. For the sake of other dogs. It is highly contagious and a right pain if your dogs come down with it, so it's generally recommended that you keep them in for 10 days or so.

That sounds perfect both! Sorry I just read a post earlier on here that made it sound like they went rather a long way and the puppy was absolutely knackered. I didn't want to think I'd given the green light to that Wink
Remember the 5 minute thingy is a GUIDE not a RULE so use your own knowledge of your own puppy to to limit/regulate exercise timeframes over the next few weeks and months.

i am so glad i joined here as this is one thing i was worried about.......the breeder i got my pup from sprayed us when we entered the house and advised us to get this spray to use and not to let caesar out before his jabs because of parvo.....said it was ok to go in the garden but not anywhere else where there were dogs..only if we carried him in a bag....as you have mentioned on here..cats hedghogs etc go in the garden.....i suppose as a breeder she has to do everything by the book as they say to protect herself .....i have been worried sick about caesar going out till he has his second jab next week but thankyou so much for reassuring me that it isnt as big a risk as i thought it was .....hugs ali x

WOW i have heard it all now, spraying you??? putting pup in a bag??? no wonder you were worried about him going out.

My pup is now 11 weeks old, I got him at 5 weeks (long story) but from that day he came home he was on the school run with us, fine he was in the buggy but still with us, at 6 weeks he was stopping off in the park to play with other dogs on the field. NO i didnt tell my vet he was already out mixing haha. He had his 1st "proper" walk at 9.5 weeks, so a little early as he had injections at 6 and 9 weeks, but its the best thing i could of done. Takeing him out early and letting him mix with other dogs while off lead.

To be honest, breeders who overprotect, over worry, and fuss in this sort of a way, whilst totally understandable, do their puppies a grave diservice by not exposing their immune system to everything 'normal' that they WILL have to deal with when they leave the bubble of the breeders home. I know some breeders who won't allow pups to freerun in the garden before they leave. Some that make everyone take shoes and coats off and wash hands even when the pups are past the 2 - 3 week old stage... these pups are so vunerable having been so cossetted and restricted! Sad

lol well i didnt buy the spray as i figured what was the point as i cant spray every cat that comes in the garden or bird etc lol.......thats why i couldnt understand why she sprayed us as she had cats too so they must venture out of her garden and come back in to where the pups were........hugs ali x

Shocked Shocked Shocked

I would have dunked you in Domestos!!

No pups of mine leave before eight weeks.. I do not know your situation but I do know that no reputable breeder would let a pup go before..

I have only scanned this topic so appoligies if I am missing something..

I was thinking of getting everyone to wear crime scene suits with overshoes and face masks, but thought better of it. To be honest my lot were out in the garden from about 5 weeks old. They were even in the pond, under bushes the lot. Got to agree with you here Di, you can't wrap them up in cotton wool.
