[quote="Martin62"]I was thinking of getting everyone to wear crime scene suits with overshoes and face masks, but thought better of it. To be honest my lot were out in the garden from about 5 weeks old. They were even in the pond, under bushes the lot. Got to agree with you here Di, you can't wrap them up in cotton wool.[/quote

All of my pups are out in the garden and play but that is totally different to placing them at risk from situations that may cause problems..

I stop going to as many shows, spray my show dogs with detox and dip their feet.

I do not wrap my pups up in cotton wool but I do not allow them to have to fight infections i can hopefully, prevent.,. it is all just common sense..

Having recently got Harley, a 10 week golden Lab, I was terrified about taking him out for a walk. He has his second jab on Wednesday and the nurse said to leave it another 2 weeks before taking him out!

I now feel completely reassured, and I'm going to take him for his first walk now!!!

Thanks Smile

Thank you so much for this thread, so much information and advice.

I am just preparing to bring Minnie home and do hope that our vet knows his stuff but I do know whose advice I shall be taking.

Very informative thread Smile

I often look after my parents elderly dog when they go away and i'm impatient for Duke and Tess to get to know each other. Trouble is, because Tess is very old now and has lots of problems (heart condition, blind, athritis) she doesn't go out anymore so her vet a couple of years ago didn't see the point in vaccinating her because of that. When would Duke be ok to go to my parents and meet them and Tess? He has his first vaccinations tomorrow.

I would take him now, I have always socialised my pups as soon as they come home, mixing with dogs in their own environments.

Truthfully id take him over now, as long as she can cope with a mad pup charging around then thats fine. As shes old i do believe that she will have immunity to all the doggy illnesses so perfectly safe. I had Harry out as soon as i got him at 5 weeks, and sniffing/playing with other dogs at 6-7weeks.

when we had bailey he was 7 months old we had no paperwork with him the story was hed been shipped from pillar to post so much that when we went on hols and packed his drinks bowl he unpacked it anyway we didnt now if he had had innoculations so we had them all done again with buget vets but was told just incase they didnt go over the top with loads of advice but they were always overbooked so most of the time for his injections we had do wait outside
i think its more to do with rules and regulations as they didnt seem to mind that we had to walk him to the practise and back home she did so ohh ummm not really suppose to do that but i def wasnt carrying him lol
