Jake is currently insured with More Than pet insurance, but i'm thinking about switching to Axa because ive realised that More Than don't cover complimentary treatment such as hydrotherapy and charge 10% of the claim aswell as the excess.
Axa have quoted £32.27 to cover Jake and Bella. The policy includes £7,000 cover per year but only £250 per condition for complimentary treatments. Is £250 per condition going to be enough if one of them develops a condition such as hip displasia and needs hydrotherapy??
It's also a £75 excess, does anybody know if this goes up with age or if I will have to pay a % of the claim. I can't see anything in the policy booklet but they're so hard to read!
I was all settled on another company until I realised that once they reached 9 i'd have to pay £250 excess + 20% of the claim as opposed to just the £75 i'd have been paying for the first 9 years.
Is there anything else I should know about Axa?
Or... is anyone with somebody that offers better cover?
I have just replied to a thread about this Chrissi posted.
I have just taken out Sainsburys insurance which is underwritten by AXA. It was the best in terms of policy I could find, and it covers £7500 per condition time unlimited, for £75 excess. As you say, it also covers complementary fees too which most insurers don't. You get 12 months for the price of 9, and double Nectar points as long as you dont have any claims at end of year and the policy is fully paid.
It's £19.60 per month, starting on 15th July........
I have spent weeks researching pet insurance and this seemed to be the best one. I am a lawyer so have a habit of reading absolutely everything to make sure I am not getting tucked up!!

Have answered the question you asked on my thread.
Can't answer your Axa questions because my brain can't cope with any more insurance!!!!!!
I have just discovered the the date you start your insurance changes the quote price quite significantly I think. Mine dropped by 22 pounds because I changed start date from June to July so have a play with your qotes too just in case!
I haven't had a policy with AXA direct but did take out one M&S policy when AXA were the underwriter for M&S. I can't recall hearing anything bad about AXA and people have seemed happy with them I think.
Mine are mostly with PetPlan, not the cheapest I know but long standing and generally a very good reputation.
I did look at sainsbury's but was worried that with a "per condition" policy if either of them developed a persistant problem they may reach the limit on that type of policy.
E.g. I know a labrador who is on £150 ish of meds per month and will be for the rest of their lives. They'd reach a £7500 limit in 4 years and could potentially live for much longer than that. Plus, that then doesn't take into account initial treatment and diagnosis for the same "condition". I know they had lots of bloodwork and scans done and were referred to a specialist which must have been pricey and its all the same condition so all adds up toward the one limit.
Plus, from what I understand, if they were to have something like a hip replacement and then needed a second... it's still one "condition" so soon adds up...
Laura... homebase and argos quoted me nearly £50 per month... EACH! No idea why so high...
I switched Pippa from Morethan to AXA, I was very happy with Morethan but was not willing to pay the 10% vet fees.
Before switching I spoke to the lady at my vets who does the claims and she recommended AXA, as did one of the nurses and one of the vets. I havent had to claim so cannot comment on the service.
axa were brilliant when they underwrote m & s -- i moved my dog (when he reached 9) to axa (no pre-existing conditions) as currently they only have a small excess for older dogs - and not a percentage on top
Can I just add a word of caution about Axa Insurance - their premiums are good, however their service when claiming leaves alot to be desired !
I have unfortunately had to submit three claims for Jasper and have had to jump through hoops for each one. This last claim I have been waiting over a month to hear from them, only for them to come back to ask for more information. The amount of the last claim is over £2100 so not a sum I want to wait weeks and weeks for. The information they have asked for this last time was submitted with both the first and second lot of paperwork (!!) so they are either now stalling or just plain incompetent.
£250 per condition wont be nearly enough, im with direct line and i have £6000 per condition, i pay a little more but between my 2 dogs i have had £9000 out of them since Christmas. I would defiantly recomend them!
I am with AXA and just renewed for a second year. I haven't had to claim so can't comment about that, but I was concerned with the amount of time it took to get my policy documents through.
it took about 8 weeks and 3 phone calls to get the documents. They have apparently changed the prople dealing with their admin and my policy still hadn't been transferred to the new people. This could explain why your claims took time. This does concern me in case I need to make a claim.
Hope this makes sense - had about 3 hours sleep thanks to the mouse gnawing away in the cavity wall right next to my head in bed. Little bugger!
