I am DEFINITELY purchasing Luna's new pet insurance today but just had a sudden thought. (after getting quotes and having thinks for far too long!)
Is she covered when taking part in agility training/comps?
Are gun dogs covered when training/doing field trials/out shooting?
How about show dogs at shows?
I'm about to start reading the small print of Sainsbury's policy, our current favourite quote so will let you know if I find the answer in there before you provide it!
My experience has been that no, dogs are NOT covered whilst at events and undertaking activities that may be more hazardous than normal life, because we put them in those situations completely by our own choice (ditto breeding etc etc).
So for example when dogs of mine have been injured in working tests or out picking up, its been wise to declare that it occured on a walk or the claim would not be paid.
not that i ever would of course... just theoretically.

The boys!
Read: Wylanbriar Dog Blog on the website: Updated! 1st February 12´!
blo**dy hell really, Basil hurt his neck courtesy of a trainer checking him on a gundog session.
Thankfully I wasn't asked where it happened so haven't lied - but they're not having £3k back now!
"Your pet being used for breeding purposes, guarding, track racing, coursing or
used in connection with any business, trade, profession or occupation."
So far this is all I've found in Sainsbury's exclusions that seems related.
I'm with Di, as far as 'it happened on a walk' being the thing to say
As far as I'm concerned - a walk has just as many hazards as any other activities (and unless someone shoots your dog or it gets impaled on a piece of agility equipment - both pretty unlikely scenarios) then you were just on a kind of walk!!
You know when places like Sainsburys say "per condition" is that per condition for the whole lifetime of the pet or per condition, per year?
I think that Sainsbury's is 7000 per condition for the lifetime of the pet.
I've gone with Homebase in the end because their's is 7500 per condition per year, so can 'if' Luna got HD we could claim 7500 each year for her HD. Whereas Sainsbury would pay out 7000 for the HD then stop.
That's how I've interpreted it anyhow - is a nightmare to get your head around!
I'm now going to run away and hope that premium stays the same always so I can forget about finding new insurance forever!
