You could perhaps just change Nellie to a different company and keep Basil with Direct Line. I think most policies are going up this year anyway - I dread to think how much mine will go up.
I'm not sure if pet insurance companies have a central database like the car insurance companies do. You only have to give a car registration number to the insurance company when asking for a quote and they know all about it. House insurance companies also know about all the previous claims you have had, even with a different company. If a pet database exists does it have access to vet records or do they only get information if they ask for it?

Well my insurance company must be good, lifetime cover, pay up promptly and even though I had made a claim the premium went down this year, and that was to only £16pm!

Not quite the same thing but I got my house insurance renewal through from Bradford and Bingley, it had gone up from £320 to £497
I managed to get similar cover from Direct Line for £407 but I didn't try anyone else. I rang B&B to ask why it had gone up so much and they just said that everything had gone up and that was the best they could do, they didn't even say to come back to them if I got a better offer. The Direct Line quote had 25% off for doing it online so no doubt that will go up to a ridiculous amount next year.
The cost of living is going up so much, yet my wage isn't budging and the way the council is cutting jobs soon I will be lucky to be employed at all.
Worrying times!
