Ruby is 2 and a half and i have been with petplan since Ruby was 6 months and have never made a claim. I have always had her insured at the highest level but even so i received a renewal quote yesterday for £41 per month! Im am not goin g to pay this as i think it is a huge amount each month. What do others who are on top cover pet plan pay per month? Also would up to £7000 be enough per year as i have a more than quote that is alot cheaper. Can anyone else recommend me other insurers to try?

I'm with Sainsburys top cover and pay around £20 per month for life conditions and £7000. I'll get my renewal in about a month so we'll see how much it's risen. Lottie was diagnosed with OCD this year and has also had treatment for a bad dog bite Sad (over £500)

I've been very happy with Sainsburys who have been brilliant and paid out within a week,no questions asked, thank goodness.

I might hate them in a month though Wink

I used to be with Petplan - never had any claims. The first year I was paying £30pm, then it went up to £33pm. By the third year, they wanted me to renew my policy with a premium of nearly £40 per month (I have a really bad postcode, so never get good premiums on any insurances anyway..) Although it was a good policy, they had increased my premium by rather a lot two years running, and I thought enough was enough.

I would recommend Marks and Spencer. The premier policy I have with them is actually better than the Petplan policy and I'm paying £28.49. I've had a couple of small claims and they are very fast paying up.

Thanks i will check marks and spencers policy. Do they pay up upfront if you need to claim or do they reimburse you after?

Gee that IS a lot. If Tess hasn't needed a claim in this year and they quote me that much for the second, I am DEFINITELY taking my business elsewhere. Shocked

We've just had a very competitive quote from More Than pet insurance, and it seems like a pretty good policy Smile

I think I pay about £22 per month with Direct Line. They pay up quickly and deal direct with the vet so I don't have to pay out first. They only pay a maximum of £6000 per condition though and they have limits on what they consider to be reasonable for various things (eg overnight hospitalisation).

I'm stuck with them now because I've had a couple of trips to the vet which would mean exclusions.

To be honest, that is more down to your vet, not the insurance company. The insurance companies give you the option on the claims form as to who the money is to be paid to (you or vets) but some vets won't allow you expect them to claim from the insurance company.

I'm with kennel club £35 per month, expensive but I've never had a problem claiming, my last claim for a previous dog was £4,500 paid out within 48 hours of the claim form being sent Very Happy

I have been looking around at Insurance quotes, which will be for Baxter who I bring home on Tuesday.

Being a lawyer, I read everything Rolling Eyes and the best policies I have found are Direct Line and Sainsburys in terms of price, level of cover and being unlimited on time.

I have to say Petplan were a rip off and I seem to remember with their plan you had to pay excess then a % too which seems daft to me when your paying a premium and being asked to pay excess.

I will prob be going with Direct Line TBH.
