Has anyone tried Fresh Pets Deterrent powder for trying to prevent their labs eating their own poo? I have today received a tub (£9.99 on special offer) and find the main ingredient is red pepper powder. The idea is to sprinkle it on the dog's food which means the poo becomes unpalatable. We will see.

I'm currently fighting a losing battle with Ruby eating other animals poo, but have mostly managed to stop her eating her own by cleaning it up out of the garden pretty much straight after she's done it (but out of her sight).

I was thinking of getting something like that product you mentioned, as I thought maybe if she tried to eat her own poo and found it unpleasant, it might have a knock-on effect on her other poo-eating. I'll be interested to hear how you get on with it.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread too!!

Busby is a poo eater, though 95% of the time I can get there first I would like to put a stop to it altogether.

Good luck with that, Kimbley. I wish I could stop Ruby but these days once she's off-lead it's like she's on a mission to find and eat as much poo as possible, no matter how much 'leave' training we've been doing. It's driving me mad.

I have an eater and a roller. She's just had her 3rd shower in 3 days.

I hate having to shower her as I am worried what it is doing to her coat, but I can't cope with the smell. I can usually prevent her eating much poo, but I just can't persuade her not to roll in it

I think I've made the mistake of turning it into a challenge with Busby Embarassed

At home, he's fine - he'll leave his and the other dogs alone - not picking it up straight away and treating him for ignoring it worked there.

But on the park, he seems to know I HAVE to pick up, so wants to win the race to get there!! It's all good if I have a ball to distract him, but if not then it's a head on challenge! Laughing

Nothing distracts Ruby once she's on a mission. Not even the temptation of playing with another dog. She just can't get enough of the Dirty Cake! Wink Sad

Do you think I can give it to the cat so that she won't eat cat poo?? It's gross!! She's just come in from the garden with the worst breath again.

Let us know if it works as a deterrent ( although can't see the cat eating anything with red pepper powder in it!!)

Will keep you all posted on efficacy of pepper powder. Am currently on crutches so can't get to poo before Rufus. He was in kennels recently for two weeks and when he came home he didn't seem so interested in poo-snax. Gave him first dose this evening so we'll see what happens. Not sure it's suitable for cats. See http://pongypets.com/.
